I am at my 50 hr service on my 2007 m 7040 4x4 and am not sure where the drain plug is for the front diff. i see the drain for the hubs but not the diff. and it says each hub holds 3.7 qts. and the diff. holds 5.8 qts.

I didn't think there was a separate front differential sump. The hubs on a Kubota typically ARE the "differential". Maybe the hubs hold 3.7 each and the tube holds 5.8? That doesn't sound right to me, but....

When in doubt, call the dealer.

I called two dealers and both had no idea, Im not sure how they have been servicing these machines. I finally was able to talk to someone with Kubota a tech. person and they assured me the fluids were seperate, which is what I thought by the level of the fill plugs on the hub housings compared to the diff. housing, and they told me the only way to get the 5.8 qts. out of the housing was to pump it out. Thanks for the suggestions and I hope this helps someone with a M series 4x4.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 9.5 quarts come out of the first hub that you drain. I believe the hubs and axle tube are not sealed from each other on most 4x4 tractors. You may want to park the machine with a 2x6 under only one tire to allow the axle tube to drain to one side. This is what I've done on my little JD.

On second thought, does your M7040 have planetarty reduction on the whel hubs? If so, then do not tip the axle with a board, but try a keep it level to drain each planetarty hub equally.

No the Kubota's do not have plantery gears they have a bevel gear set up and on all the other Kubota 4x4 stuff I have messed with the bevel gear housings and the axle tube housings are separate espically since the bevel gear housings are much lower tan the axle tube or diff. housing.
