LX279 PTO won't engage

Circa 1998 LX279 with 42' deck. The PTO stopped engaging in the middle of a mowing session. My wife was mowing so I don't know the exact sequence of events.

The switch was replaced a couple years ago. I checked continuity was OK on all the terminals when the switch is operated.
If I disconnect the harness jump 12V directly to the clutch it engages. Clutch winding reads ~ 3 OHMS which I think is OK.
Seat switch shuts off engine so I think it's OK.

Reading about similar problems with other models I suspect perhaps either a safety or something on the board failed as I see "PTO relay" mentioned often but I can't find a schematic for this model and I don't know exactly where all the safeties and other involved components physically are.

If someone has a schematic, knows the locations of the switches, something I've overlooked or any other feedback I'd be very grateful.

The switch checks out with an ohmmeter. The contacts open and close as expected.
