LX279 Kawasaki eng

LX279 with a Kawasaki FD501v engine. When I shut it off, it has a knocking noise, when the engine stops. Sounds like a rod but only does it when the engine stops. What else could it be water pump, fuel pump or something else inside the engine?

Are you sure the knocking is coming from the engine? Could it be from electric clutch rattling or transaxle drive? Have not had Kawasaki engines work loose but have had Briggs where mounting bolts loosened and the engine could rock around.

Being is mower mechanic for over 25 years I have all brands of engines come loose. Normally will occur at startup and shutoff, with a few banging when the deck is engages. Doesn't take much of a bolt being loose to cause the knock on shutdown. Sometimes only 1/8 turn on the bolts is all it takes.
