I have an LTX1050 Kohler and just completed my first oil change. And cleaning up afterwards - what a mess.

The plastic drain plug wouldn't pull open and turning further caused the whole drain plug to come out, spilling oil everywhere. I think I got it in tight enough (no leaks) but want to buy a deep socket to torque that sucka down.

Does anyone out there know the size?

Thanks

Chris

A famous question. A common question. The genius who designed that "plug" ought to have to come help. Anyway, I got rid of mine, beucase I didn't trust it to stay securely on. I have heard of that plug leaking oil out badly and ruining engines. I replaced mine, with a setup of pipe street-elbows, short pipe nipples and a drain valve, that works great. And very securely, and simple.
I have had another thought, which I have not put on my mower yet. But I went to my favorite auto parts store, O'Reilly's, had them make up a small 6" long hydraulic hose, with the correct thread size on one end [maybe it was 1/4". maybe 1/8", I forget] and a drain valve and hose cap on the other end. It will thread in / on much easier. I will put that on next time I get the chance.
THere are ways to eliminate that "plug", you may just have to invent your own.

That plug is 15/16". Do yourself a favor and replace that drain system. I used a 3/8" pipe nipple 6" long to replace that plug, an elbow to make the down turn and then a 2" nipple with a cap to finish it off. Then, it's right there in front of you and handy for draining the oil. I ran into the same thing you did with mine on the first oil change. That stupid thing would not open, and on top of that it was in so loose that when I tried to turn it the 1/4 turn it just unscrewed itself. But I got the oil out......................and that makes me the WINNER !
