I have an ltx 1050 with 26 hours on it.
So far, this mower seems to have too many problems.

The current problem involves trying to change the deck belt, which unfortunately has already broken.
I ordered the belt and it came in, so removed the deck with no problem.

This deck has the pulleys with the spring at rear of the deck.
And a fairly complex belt routing.

The spring that connects to the pulley is in the path of the belt.
It seem obvious that the belt needs to go under the spring or it would rub.
But we cannot figure out how to get the belt under the spring.
I have watched a bunch of videos, but none show the configuration of the spring or the pulleys like on my mower deck.
(Pulleys on the back with the spring running front/back)

I figure that there must be a fairly simple way to do this, but I am just not seeing it.
And I could use a bit of help!
Thanks.

have you followed the step by step instructions (with diagrams) in your owners manual? They seem to be quite complete... Look in section 7, Pp 27.

Unfortunately the mower came with the owner's manual for a 1040, not a 1050.

I wish that I could follow the step by step instructions!:)

I been working on a lt1050 for a client- took deck off to inspect transmission issue. I think whats your issue is that the spring is your biggest hurdle. just follow the routing diagram that is actually on a sticker on the deck. Don't put belt on the pto clutch yet , once you get belt lined up you can hook the spring on the bolt and tensioner pulleys and then push on the tensioner to make a slack so you can start slipping the belt onto the pto clutch pulley and walk it the rest of the way to put belt onto the pto clutch pulley.

Be sure to keep the, pivot lubed for the deck belt tensioner.

Wow been reading this thread and not compareing or bashing brands but , I didn't change belts (primary-mtr 2 pulley) or secondary (deck) on my JD235 till after 9 and one half years and over 450 hrs. Think I could go another ten years with scheduled maintenance. Also mine was $5200 OTD almost ten years ago.
To the OP hope you get bugs straightened out of it !

Believe or not I thought / expected someone to respond to my post like you have while I was posting it. Might want to read my first post again slowly. Wasn't trying to make a point just did not expect belt problem at 26 hours, but then again that's main reason I enjoy TBN (to learn). Like I said I wasn't brand bashing either . Even wished OP well on repair of his "CC".

BTW : Those $ 5K + have been some of the best spent money I have spent since purchaseing my Kubota. :)

Oh, I read yer original post "slowly", alright..... very typical JD-down-yer-nose post. And I doubt the OP with his current frustrations was much cheered by yer remonstrations.... suggest doing yer crowing in yer own chicken coop.

I'll NEVER change the drive belt on my 2004 3235 with 450 hours because unlike the JD it doesn't have one. The shaft drive never breaks or slips <G><G><G>.

I"ve had the Cub Cadet LT 1050 for 7 years now. Unless the belt is put in wrong or one of the spindles is tight or locked up, there is no reason the belt can't last a few years. Obviously there are other instances, such as picking up an object in the tall grass which could jam in the belt. I cut over 3 acres with my machine and the ground is rough and here in Missouri we grow rocks along with the grass. Belts are expendable, and they wear or break. IF your machine hasn't needed a belt in 9 1/2 years, then you aren't using it enough or it's grossly oversized for what you are cutting.

Yeah, I've read the instuctions also and it shows that the belt goes over the deck idler pulley spring and this is simply not the way. It would cause the belt to rub and possibly bind. My old belt was completely destroyed so there was no way to see how it was originally routed. Is there an easy way to remove the spring?

Not a very good copy...but can be zoomed in....might help you get an idea of proper routing.....I kinda think you have the spring connected wrong....it definitely lies under the belt, and doesn't come close to rubbing against it
