On my lt2000 hydrostatic the blade keeps spinning under power for a while after disengage.

After a minute or two it usually will. Does anybody know what to adjust? If you can direct me to a picture of the mechanism that would be great.

Two or Three posable problems . First the engagement mechanism is not releasing completely which is keeping tension on the belt. This can be corrected by pulling the deck and cleaning out all the grass clippings ect from around the mechanism and lubricating all pivoting points. The second is related to the same problem but in this case the return spring has fallen of leaving nothing to pull the mechanism back and releasing the belt tension. Replace the spring and that should correct the problem. The 3rd issue might be the cable ( if so equipped ) that engages the belt tensioner. If the cable is corroded or dmaged it might hang up preventing the tensioern mechanism from releasing . One other cause may be the brake pads that rub the sides of the deck blade pullies that put the brakes on the blade movement. Most Tractor manuals will show these parts on the exploded views of the deck .

Thank you for the helpful reply. I think the springs are present. The one on the right side (Spring, Return Idler?) seems clearly connected to a pivot that I can move by hand freely. The one on the left side isn't as clear. I may need to remove the deck to see how it is connected.

Its not entirely clear to me how the blade engage/disengage mechanism is supposed to work. My understanding is there are two belts, the drive belt and the mower belt. When the mower is moving and the mower is running I assume that all of the pulleys are turning and both belts are taut..

How things work beyond that is not clear to me. When I press in the clutch does that disconnect the transmission, or does it just slacken the drive belt?

When I disengage the mower, does that just slacken the mower belt so it no longer drives the mower spindles? Then the blades will freewheel except for spring-loaded brakes that stop them more quickly than just friction? So these brakes are pulled away when the blades are engaged?

I believe my model is 917.275620 Looking at the parts diagram it looks like the relevant parts are:

For engage/disengage:
148 169022 Spring Return Idler
55 155046 Arm, Idler

For blade brakes:
147 131335 Spring Extension
53 184907 Arm Assembly, Pad, Brake

Are there brake pads that attach to 53, or does the metal arm just rub tangentially on the rim of the Mandrel Pulley?

Now thinking back I believe I located the brake arm spring on the left side and the idler pulley spring on the right side. I'll need to double check that the brake arm swing on the right side is there too.

The idler arm seems to move freely when I move it by hand, I'll need to verify that it is free to move full range.
