LT 2042 VS. GT 2544

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Need help in deciding which one of these Garden Tractors to buy, LT 2042 or GT 2544. Price is fairly close. I have a 149 Cub Cadet now and would like to stay with the Cub family.

I have last years 2180, same as the LT2042. The LT2042 and GT2544 are the same tractor, just that the GT has larger wheels, seat. If they are close in price, I would buy the GT2544. I love my 2180, but wish the 42" deck was a deeper design. It doesn't allow good mulching performance, but it does cut very well. The 2hp difference is negligible, you're paying for the larger tires/wheels and seat and deck. Both machines can handle the same work load, pull the same amounts, etc. If its a small difference in price, I'd buy the GT.

Mr.W hit all the key points. An extra ~$500 gets you a deeper, wider deck. Larger wheels and tires all the way around and an upgraded seat. All the hardware is the same. As far as the engine HP goes, I dunno how you'd tell the difference between the 18-23 kohler commands /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.
The cut quality, performance is awesome on my 2544.

I would go GT. The bigger tires will give you a bit better ride.

Bought the GT 2544, after 2.1 hours, it seems to be just what I needed. Most of this time was just trying Tractor out, maybe 1.0 hour mowing grass. Can't get wife on it as of yet, she's still pi$$ed off about me spending money on this type Tractor. She thinks that I can go to Wally World and buy one of theirs for $800.00, and it will be and do the same things that my CC will do. But when you have been using a Cub Cadet 149 (made in 1974 and still runs and cuts my grass) why would I want a mower from Wally World. I will say that foot pedals are a lot easier than the hand control on left side of steering wheel.

Heheheee.. That's funny! Take her to a kubota or JD dealer. She'll re-think that statement REAL fast! Those babies can run 2X the price for a comparable unit. (they are nice though!)
