I am still trying to decide which tractor I want to buy. Can some of you help me understand the pros and cons between sychronized shuttle and the hydrostatic. I will use the tractor on a 24 acre mountain farm that is terraced. Mostly it will be used for plowing, tilling and mowing. I will use the FEL some but not extensively. I will also use it skidding a few logs for firewood.

Thanks,
Stanley

Welcome to TBN.........

For what you describe for usage I'd go with shuttle. HST would be better if you did a lot of loader work and repetitive forward and backward motion.
Shuttle would also be less $$$ than HST.
Good luck in your search.

I agree. I don't like Hydros for mowing, especially in hilly areas.

I have a hydro and I agree. If you are going to be tilling and such go with the shuttle.

I agree with everyone above. If not much loader work, go with the shuttle.

Thanks guys. I was leaning toward the Hydro so I really appreciate the input. I think I have changed my mind and will go with the shuttle.
Best Regards to all,

I've got a XR4040 and thought about the hydro because I do a lot of FEL work. Now that I've got the shuttle I can't see the hydro being worth the extra money to me. Plus I hated the herky jerky of stopping with the hydro. I assume that would have got better as I used it more though. My terrain is fairly rough and a hydro would cause problems there I assume. The foot throttle is useless to me as it is.

Well the jerkiness of the hydro goes away after you get use to it. I have a rough pasture that I mow and disk and it doesn't affect me on the pedal. Its also to small to use the cruise on it so I just manually press the pedal. One thing that it will do is save you from hitting something. i have almost gotten into my fence but the first instinct you do is snatch you foot off the pedal and it will come to a quick stop. Also I have a little one that I ride in there with me and I couldn't hold him and use the shuttle lever. So i have the perfect set up for me.

Yeah, we have a XR4046HC and mow with the cruise control all the time. Our big tractor, a NH 100 hp gear tractor works okay for mowing but prefer the Hydro LS.
