LS XG 3140 VS LS XR 3135

So that would be 2189 lbs minus SSQA minus pallet forks? What do you estimate the limit to be?

I would unload off the bed of a pickup or a low trailer. Maybe move the pallet a short distance. Thx

This is measured at the pin on LS. Some other manufactures measure about 20" out from the pins, it is quite a big difference. A ton on pallet forks will be way too much for this tractor. Also, the front axle on this tractor would be under a lot of strain. A bigger tractor like the XR4100 series will be needed. You will also want your rear wheels weighted and/or a weight box on the back. 2000lbs is a lot of weight on the front of the tractor, a lot of that weight is riding on the front axle.

Thanks for the replies! I knew nothing about tractors before I found this site- now I know next to nothing...

That's a lot of progress in a short time. HaHa!

I went by the dealer the other day to check out the backhoe bucket on a XR 3135. It was a 12" with non removable teeth.

He just got a new tractor in- a MT345E . Bigger frame, bigger front axle, more horses all around. Dealer said he could get me

into it for less than the XG 3140H. I drove it, and it fits me better than the smaller frame XG. In my situation,I believe the manual

gearbox would be acceptable. The property is all open, and all of my other vehicles have a clutch. I think I must add this one into the

mix... Plus, and I am guessing, the gearbox may have more longevity and cheaper maintenance in the long term. I do not want to be

doing this again, in a few years.( buying a different/ bigger tractor, or whatever.) I plan on filling the rears with

beet juice for sure.

I bought the XR3135, to do some of the same things that you're doing. Bought 14 acres that was in all old pasture. Use the tractor brush hog and grapple to clear the property to build on. I have loved owning the tractor. But I felt several times that it really would have been a fairly useless without a couple things. One, four-wheel-drive. Two, fluid in the rear tires. Three, some extra weight. A tractor this size doesn't have enough weight to truly maximize the potential of it 35 hp Diesel engine. And I can speak to the comment I made earlier about the lift capacity. You will not be satisfied if you were looking to lift one ton. That being said we have been extremely happy with the machine and what it can do. Personally I like the XR over the XG because of the features that make the machine little bit easier to fuel, And more comfortable to use. Which if you're buying a tractor to own for a lifetime might be things to consider.

Unless unloading a lot of 2000 lb pallets, I would find another way to do the occasional job requiring that much FEL capacity.

One option is to put another pallet on the truck and manually stack half the "full" pallet onto it. Moving 1000 by hand sounds like a lot of work, but I bet it would take 10-15 minutes max. If you have kids, put them to work and give them $10 per pallet and a bowl of ice cream. They will look forward to the next delivery LOL. Heck, even if you gave them $20/pallet it will take a lot of pallets to justify the cost of upgrading for one task.

The stone supplier might do that as well for a reasonable upcharge.

I estimate the "useable" lift capacity is about 1600 lbs with pallet forks. Like you, I need high lift capacity occasionally. "Overloading" the front axle a couple of dozen times a year is not going to be catastrophic. Use plenty of ballast, keep the load low, move slowly, avoid ruts and potholes...just use common sense and I think it will be OK. BTW, a Kubota L3650 with LA805 loader has 1715 at the pins and 1290 20" forward.....that is how I got my 1600 lb estimate above.

BTW, I am also looking at an XR3135. I really like the machine, price, features and my local dealer but have concerns about support and parts availability down the road. I suspect resale value will not be as good as the orange or green options.

When I was looking at the XR3135H cab, the dealer gave me a price of 27.5K. He said he could get me into the XR4140 for just another 1.5k to 2k, I can't remember which now. If the extra size is not a problem, I would go with the 4100 series tractor if you didn't mind spending a little more.
