Ls engine issue?

If I were in Canada, I would be looking at 0W-30 or 0W-40 oil year round for any engine.

I agree that the OEM would be all over that dealer if he has installed 7 engines or even if he fixed 7 engines in one tractor with 170 hours on it. 25 hours per engine is a bit much. I would suspect that the dealer has some incompetent mechanics working for him if that has happened and LS would be looking very strongly at that dealer.

For the record, I changed the oil in my 4140 at 31hrs and put in 5W40 synthetic (although dealer said 10W30 would work but had no issues with running 5W40) ... had many the -45 days up here this winter and it has had no problem (although a warm up for a few minutes is a good idea)

Out of North Carolina ... although my mechanic has been down there for training.

In that case, if anyone is going to the show in Louisville this week, they might want to point the LS Corporate people to this thread.

My Cummins right from the factory comes with Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme New and Improved (jk on the newnimproved) Synthetic 5w-40.

Rams with Cummins in them are very popular up North in the Oil Sands and whatever else kind of muck they can drill or make oil with. And new owners were gettin' kinda miffed when their brand-spanking-new $70k truck wouldn't start in the cold. Really cold. As in, when you spit, it hits the ground as an ice cube.

So Ram factory-fills ALL their 6.7 CTD's with the aforementioned synthetic. No matter where they're sold. Unless something has changed in the last 6 Months

Depending on what's on sale, I run 5w-40 Synthetic in my Truck. T-6, M1, or the Extreme. I stay with those three.

Love it. Warms up quicker, moves sooner and faster, cools off better, doesn't 'coke' on your turbo.

And at $20 a Gallon........... Why would you run anything else?

FWIW I've heard that LS are quite well engineered ans their engines are very good.
The only downfall is that dealers are mostly Mom & Pop shops whose technical expertise is very low.
I suppose they have to start somewhere.

2018 Boomer 40 26 hours went boom on me yesterday while plowing. Went into first regen...then lots of exhaust smoke and rod clatter. Engine siezed after pumping 4 quarts of oil out of exhaust. Not a good day. Dealer picked up to diagnose.

Rusty that's not good. Can you follow up with us and let us know what happened.

Almost sounds like your turbo let go and threw all the oil out the exhaust.

I to at 45 hours changed my old to 5w40 synthetic. I am a licensed mechanic and kinda found it odd to that 7 engines failed I could see maybe 1 from improper oil and cold Temps. I feel with a turbo synthetic oil is a must but then again just my opinion. Only issue I had with mine was at 32 hours with the first regeneration my dpf developed a Crack but had no issue getting a new one from my dealer I installed myself.
