For a bunch of reasons HD is my store of last resort. If I can't get it at the Ace Hardware, the family owned lumber yard, the specialized tile store, Lowes, etc etc etc I will go to HD. Maybe 2-3 times a year. They have Makita tools and Simpson connection hardware, otherwise, no comparative advantage I know of.

And, the Lowes military discount is about as trouble free as anything can be. Never had a question come up.

I had one Lowe's store turn down my veterans discount so I went to the other store and it was accepted. I've found that there are a few (very few) employees that seem to despise anything military and will not allow the veteran's discount even if it is the store policy to do so.

Rant on:
These fools who are focused on the military as an evil force should really be focused on the real source - the politicians are the ones that declare war and send us off to war. The military does not do it on their own. AND
They are the same folks who run down the police instead of realizing that the politicians are the ones that make the laws the police are required to enforce. Again, refer to the politicians.
And who puts the politicians in office? The very ones that complain about the police and military!
Rant off.

IMHO a lot of work ethics have simply gone south. (not meaning to belittle you southern folks, LOL, just a saying)

Not work ethic, but the quality of help you can find when you promote being cheap.

As I've noted before, price, availability and service, pick 2 because you can't offer all 3 as a business and expect to survive. Genearlly, at a box store, you've got good pricing and good availability. Guess what's lacking?:D

I won't hold it against any store or company for not offering a discount to any select group of people. It's really not something any company should ever be expected to do.

I completely agree.

With that said, in regards to military discount. I seriously doubt that any military person or group lobby'd Lowes to get a discount. Lowes themselves started doing it to show support and/or gain customers. Same with Home Depot. And both should honor the pricing system they created. If they or any other business aren't going to honor military or any other discount then abolish them, up front.

Similar to my mantra: Fast, Cheap or Good. Pick any two.

Lowes had a spring special today,,,
Text the word "spring" to a number they gave you, they would send back a coupon, worth $5, 10, 25 100, or 500 dollars,,
My wife and I each got $5 and $10 , so we went shopping, and got a few low cost items,,

The store was F U L L of people spending their coupon money,

The cashier said she had mostly $5 winners, but, about a dozen $25 winners, one $100 winner.

It was a one day regional event.

4 years Army here, out in 1975. Nothing service connected, so I never went to the VA either.

But I kept hearing about the Lowes discount some years back, so I finally went over to the VA center near us (only 15 miles) got a card, JUST so I could pull it out at Lowes.....but got 'issued' a primary care doc and all. k...

For the same reason, five years ago I spent a couple hours at the Nashville to see about getting a card for the 10% discounts and get on their medical system I have been hearing about. They sent to Atlanta for verification and a few weeks later I went back for my card. Easy Peasy.

Since then I use it every time I am at Lowes and HD, both seem good with it whenever I put it out there. Easier that trying the DD214 route. When they stopped that I asked why DD214s weren't acceptable anymore and the reason they claimed was fraudulent users.

To date I probably saves a couple thousand or better and mostly at Lowes. My store was always at Menards, and if I was in a closer area of Menards I would still shop there. Lowes is slowly taking over as my store of choice for prices and problems that may come about with a purchase.

I went to our nearest Lowe’s today about 45 minutes in Mississippi and they had a sign up that said starting 4/15/19 they will start asking for id to verify it’s you using your military discount so I guess it is almost store wide now. I was going to ask if they just needed the drivers license just to verify it was you so I could post it on here for the ones that just have a dd214, but got sidetracked and forgot to. Hopefully it’s just an ID for the ones that have only a dd214 so it would be easy for them.

I was in Lowe's today and just gave my phone number. Never thought about asking about the upcoming changes. Next time I'm in there I'll try to remember to ask.

In my opinion, all that should be needed is something to identify yourself as you.
