I was at the opening of the Wellington airport and saw that Sunderland flying boat touch the runway. (about half way through the photos) The runway is level in the middle but rises up slightly at each end. When the aircraft got back to its base at Auckland they had a cradle out for it and it landed and taxied straight on to the cradle and up on to the hard. There was a lot of water that came out.
A couple of hours later in the day a RAF Vulcan bomber was trying to land and came in too low. The left hand wheels hit the bank just before the runway started and folded back the undercarriage leg. That break ruptured some fuel lines and sprayed fuel over a packed grandstand. My flatmate was in that grandstand. They would have all been killed had the pilot had not been able to get that plane back in the air. Loudest noise I have ever heard.

Greats photo's, the shot of the Mig15 "taildragger" in Harrison Ar. I had seen before, My boss had a photo of that hanging in his office..he was there that day.! He said it was pretty exciting!
