I am a tax auditor and was auditing a dealership last week. While they were looking for some records I took a walk through their used tractor section..

They had two 790 for sale that had less than 60 hrs on them.. These had the upright exhaust, which I believe would make them early 2000 models, +/- a few yrs..

why would someone pay $15k for a tractor/FEL and only put 60 hrs on the tractor in 10 yrs?

My dad has our (Im a co-owner) 790 and it had about 200 yrs on it - bought new in 2001 (30hp model). He only uses it for rough mowing, plowing a few gardens, and snow removal.. My 2320 (4 yrs old) has 250 hrs on it - which is used for any and everything I can use it for.. LOL

Just curious of the thoughts..

If it seems too good to be truth it probably is... beware!

A lot of people buy "lawn ornaments",just saw a 2009 JD 3005 for sale with 12 hours, the bucket still had all the paint on it.I think some people buy because they "think they want one.

Another perspective. Many tractor buyers are older men. Then, life happens. The machines don't end up getting much use. Then, one day, they get sold.

The hour meter on my 1986 Yanmar 169D reads under 2 hours. Thats because the meter rolled back to 0 after 999.9.

The 790 (with the vertical exhaust) was around until sometime between 2007-2009 when it got rebadged as the 3005 and the underhood exhaust, so those low annual hours may not have been as low as you thought. If they had #70 loaders, they were early production (1998-2000).
I average around 70 hours per year the last several years, so 60 hours (if those 790's are late production) isn't unreasonable.

Of course, when I bought my old 790 (in mid-2004) it had 24 hours on the meter. IIRC, the guy who bought it originally traded up for a 990. I guess the 790 didn't have the power or weight for his needs and he let it set for a while.

A minor point here but my 2001 790 has the Model 70 loader on it. The OP didn't say what model loaders those two 790 tractors had, but I seriously doubt they are Model 70's. Probably were either Model 419's or Model 300's. I really doubt they were 10yrs old as he thought, though. I guess the only way to know for sure would have been to check the serial numbers.

Doubt that...not real men at least.
Anyway, if that was the case, wouldn't you think they trade for an HST model?
