I can see it now; all the driver training programs will need to be changed to include emergency stuck throttle training! Wouldn't it be easier and less costly just to build cars that won't suffer this problem?

Was thinkin this morning Yep bought my TOYOTA in 08 it had good reviews and IT WAS THE motor trend TRUCK OF THE YEARnOW ITS MADE OUT TO BE A SCARY DANGEROUS peice of ----/Go figure should have bought the ford i guess.:confused2:

So an owner with this problem only has 21 days to get it fixed??? Good luck getting an appointment with all the rest rest of the recall activity going on right now.

With all these problems finally coming out I wonder if Consumers (we love any car not built by an American Company) Reports Magazine will revise their recommended car list.

I don't see where you come to that disingenuous conclusion from my post. My points were that the guy really didn't have to have a runaway car because he could have stopped it at any time IF he had half a brain and that there are people who aren't any smarter than him on the roads also.
It's obvious that uncontrolled throttle responses are unsafe and unacceptable.

People all react differently under stress, duress and pressure. The bottom line is we just don't know who will handle a situation, until the critical time is upon them.

I don't see where it is "obvious" in your statement that a stuck throttle was unacceptable, to me you seem to be blaming the victim and slandering "most" people on the road. Well, I'm one of those "most" people and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't go on a 20 mile jaunt with a stuck throttle but across the parking lot into a building is pretty conceivable.:laughing:

Perhaps you have the quick wit and McGyver-like skills to overcome all emergency situations but the average person does not.
Captain Sullivan ( the guy that landed on the Hudson) is very quick to point out that it was his years of training and planning that allowed him to land the plane on the river. He actually thought about, and planned beforehand, about what would happen if had an emergency in that area and where he would set the plane down.

The article I first read about this said 2010 and raised the question about the short time frame, I went to the Toyota site so I could post the correct link. I will pay more attention in the future.

Inconceivable that someone who drives a Toyota model with acceleration problems, should think about what they would do if they experienced that same problem, before they drove away? Inconceivable that a driver should know that a car won't flip just by putting it into neutral? Inconceivable that a driver should know enough to turn off the ignition or even how to do it? Regardless of whether they are in a parking lot or on the open road, they should still have an appropriate response reasoned out well before hand...or don't drive the vehicle!

We are not talking about all emergency situations. We are talking about a known fault that might happen to certain Toyota vehicles. The average person certainly does have the wit and skill to at least consider and devise an appropriate response should it happen to them.

What irony that you should mention Captain Sullivan! He PROVED my point about the necessity of thinking about a possible problem beforehand and having a plan of attack.
