bobcat ct440
On two occasions I have heard this single, loud pop coming from the rear of my Bobcat 440 utility tractor. When it happens it sounds like a tire or hydraulic hose bursting. It also reminds me of the sound a bursting aerosol can makes when thrown into a fire. I can find nothing visible wrong, nor does it seem to have caused any problems yet. The last time it happened was today as I was backing up with a brush mower attached.

Has anyone experienced this, or have a clue what it might be?

****, I hope the neighbor aint shooting at me.

Not much to go on here.

Can you feel this or is it just a sound?

Make sure the rear wheel lug nuts are tight.

What are you doing at the time? Driving, using the end loader, mowing?

I don't know about bobcats, but the times that I hear a loud bang or pop from the rear of my tractor is when I have been back dragging with the FEL at too sharp an angle. I can make that happen at will - it tells me to behave and not do that. BTW I have popped hydraulic hoses doing that as well. I am a slow learner I guess.

I cannot feel anything, just hear the noise which sounds external. Today when I heard it I was mowing, I don't remember what I was doing the first time it happened as it was several weeks ago. This popping noise sounds like a high pressure burst, not what I would expect a loose bolt to sound like, but more like a bicycle tire blowing out. The first time it happened I thought I ran over something which exploded like a spray paint can. Then I thought maybe a hydraulic line burst but found nothing, no fluid leaking, and everything still working. Now that it has happened again I fear if I don't figure it out something will break sooner or later. I will check the wheel nuts, and all the bolts I can get my hands on.

Thanks for any suggestions
Tim

Is it something on the three point hitch hitting the lugs on the tire?

Something in the PTO driveline loading up, then unloading....... Is the PTO shield chained down or free wheeling...... Is the PTO shaft well lubed.... if not, the "POP" could be the shaft compressing when you back up. If it were well lubed the shaft would slide smoothly into a shorter configuration.

It does appear that the Bobcat CT440 has two piece wheels.
