LOTS of junk ads on email

Both my wife and I have been getting LOTS of junk email ads.

What do you do to block these things, or whatever?

On Outlook underneath the "home", there's a Junk selection. We click it and then OK.

I get occasional bouts of junk email. I don't open them and click the spam button to remove.
The built in spam filter in my email program eventually "learns" what is spam and automatically blocks them.

the trick is to be very careful who you give your email to, once they have it, it's in circulation!. there should be a setting to only have certain emails sent to your inbox, the rest get sent to the junk folders. I don't give my bank my phone number because of this, they gave it out to advertisers!..

I use Thunderbird from Mozilla for my email. I can set it to block things but it also "learns" what doesn't belong. If it makes an error there is s spam folder where these rejected messages are placed. You can check it from time to time to see if you missed anything and clean it out accordingly.

I have three email accounts that all feed into the Mail program on the mac laptop. Never get junk emails from gmail. I do get them from aol. The get rid of spam function is hit or miss. But setting up a junk filter directly on aol works perfectly. Never see them again.

I used to use Thunderbird and liked it a lot. At some point Mozilla stopped supporting it though. Is it back again?

I'm pretty aggressive about marking them as junk and blocking them. I also use the option of blocking the entire domain name, and not just the email address. I will also "unsubscribe" from email lists when vendors or merchants that I do work with put me on one of their email lists that I don't want. Open their email, and somewhere down at the bottom there should be a link to "unsubscribe".

Heard somewhere that email providers learn which emails are spam by how many users put them in the spam or junk file. Lately, I've been noticing that with some of the spammers, their spam wont allow you to send them to the spam/junk file. You can only trash their emails along with all your normal emails.

Interesting. I have my gmail forwarded to my embarqmail through which we have internet access and because gmail is so finicky in being accessed by Outlook. It seems all the junk is coming to the embarqmail address, which I hardly ever give out any more because I'd like to back out of it in case we go with Comcast for internet.
