Lost of all controls on arm rest

New holland T8 sometimes loses all controls on arm rest , intelliveiw 3 screen comes up detected new vehicle information, normally comes good after an hour or two of starting and stopping tractor , new holland dealer has been looking at this for over 12 months and has not been able to solve problem

Well, to state the obvious, it has to be something common to all of the controls on the arm rest. That says to me to look at a plug (either side) or the wiring into a plug (either side) where it bundles together. Over time, vibration from the engine or operation of the tractor has caused the fault.

Plugs have all been checked as well as wiring, software has been reinstalled, a new circuit board in the arm rest, some times it's the whole arm rest, other times it is only the joystick controls , fault comes up that a new vehicle is detected and engine hrs go From 3832 to 7662, exactly twice the engine hrs, when it goes to 7662 I lose all of the arm rest at 3831 it will either work or I lose only the joystick which is what the powershift is on.New holland dealer has no idea on what to do next

Let me guess, it's out of warrantee too.

All of your symptoms scream a common source for the fault. That fault is intermittently causing the central controlling computer to do this.

In my Navy days (Electronics Tech) faults like this usually came down to a wire that looked solid but was actually just hanging on by a strand, a 'cold' solder joint, a hairline crack on the printed circuit board (pcb) and even a slightly un-seated connection. Dirty connections could also cause intermittent faults. All of these where inevitably due to vibration.

I'm not surprised that your dealership is boggled as their mechanics wouldn't have the training to fault-find electronic faults, they'll just replace stuff until the problem goes away, which is what they've so far attempted to do.

That's what I'm doing now,checking and rechecking all the plugs and wires, but can't find nothing at this stage

No, would be good if I could find someone, dealer wants the tractor up there , from past experience they will have it for two weeks ,charge a packet ( which I don't mind so much if it comes back fixed) and it is most likely still not fixed.

I'd pop over and give you a hand if I could but I've got a bloody great moat in the way.

At the T8 360's size, I'd reckon that there's a fair bit of fly-by-wire happening.

Problems like this that are common to many controls can often be caused by loose grounds. If anything has ground wires locally near the armrest, taking them loose and a star washer inserted under any ground lugs might be a good place to start. We are obviously just "fishing" here as we aren't there to actually help, but it is something else to check.

No worries, been checking all plugs wiring and anything else , still having no luck
