lost hyd on IH 584

I have had an IH 584 for 16 years. It has been used very little by me. It was in very bad shape when I got it. I have been throwing money at it since I got it. I am sure I have close to $20K in it. Now The Hydraulics have gone out. No FEL movement, No 3pt movement and Steering is intermittently dropping out. There is a loud noise like the relieve valve is bypassing the fluid.

Is this something I can fix myself?

Replace hydraulicfilter and clean the screen.

Where are those items located?
Is the screen inside the tractor to where the tractor has to be split?

Thanks, I am just now getting back to the computer.
I see It all on the left side. I was thinking it was between my legs in fount of the seat, and would be hard to get to.
Hopefully the filter and screen will fix it.

I will. I have not had a chance to work on it yet.
Tomorrow I will be buying a scrap 684. It looks like most of the parts will fit my 584. The 584 has a lot of issues, but I have had her 15 years and I like her. So, I hope to be able to fix her.
The transmission gears are only half there and they are expensive. The 684 was ..... Allegedly, ..... a good tractor that the gov paid to be scraped under some program. They cut the axle up and cut holes in the engine block. If it is true I should have lots of parts for $750.
After I get the 684 parked I hope to start work on the hydraulics on the 584.
The 584 was imported from europe for auction. It was the first tractor I bought. It gets 5 to 20 hours a year of use.

My first thought was to put my engine on the 684 transmission. But not being sure of the 684 I may pull the gears out and if they are good, put them in the 584. It is going to be hard moving 6K lbs around with no front axle.

Sounds like a government scrapping program. Perfectly good machines with holes punched in them. Our tax dollars hard at work....

I replaced the filter and cleaned the screen. Seems to be working fine.

I talked to the seller of the 684 some more after I paid him and had it loaded on my trailer. He said the government paid him $18K and he got to sell the loader separately. I figure he had to have made $24k on an old 684. He had to buy a tractor of equal or smaller size. Thats like no money out of pocket for a new tractor.
Some people have all the luck.
