Just sat down this morning with my coffee to check the weather, email and TBN and there is something horribly wrong. Our 15 yr old female cat isn't on my lap. She was always the first one to greet me in the morning and we had our routine. We had to make the decision yesterday to have her put down. We have known for a while that it was coming but somehow you are really never as emotionally prepared as you hope to be.

Feels almost silly to grieve so much about our animals when we have so many priceless blessings.......but we can't help but notice the quiet pale that has fallen over our home. Rest in peace Molly. You brought us years of love, companionship and memories.

Sorry to hear about your Molly. You can get awful attached in 15 years. I lost my 16-year old cat a couple of years ago and just in the past 2 months got up the gumption to get another cat. And her name is Molly! People get really attached to their dogs, and I get that, I really do, I've had dogs. But cats too are really good company. Here's my Molly, out for a walk on her leash so the local eagles don't grab her.

Sorry to hear about your cat... we had to put our cat of 13 years down a few months ago. :( Does make the house seem 'empty' when they are not around. It was my wife's very first pet ever and she still really misses him. About a month ago we also lost our outdoor cat to a car. This was a cat that some people dumped off up the road two years ago (same road he was killed on). Very nice, very friendly cat, would follow my wife around when she weeded the flower beds etc. Was a very good mouser and loved hunting birds. Not sure why those people dumped him but at least he had two good years with us... he could of died on the road that day. He would always be hanging out in the window in the morning... now it seems doubly empty with no cat inside and no cat outside :(

Sorry to hear about your your old friend. We all seem to go through this from time to time. I think the best thing is to remember Molly for all the good times and go out and get a new kitten as soon as possible. Cats are good company!

Sorry to hear about your loss. I just had to have my cat of 10+ years put down. Not sure how old she was. She was here when I moved out here. You don't realize how much you can miss them until they are gone. So I understand where your feelings are. They do actually become part of the family. I told a friend, "She was my only roommate that stuck it out till the end".

Sorry for your loss. You really can get attached to a pet. I lost my cat Spooky last year. She made it to 24 years old. Here's a pic of her as a kitten, a long time ago.

Sorry for your loss. My best buddy died a few years ago. He was 16. I told my wife we were going to go pet-less for a year before getting another one. 4 months later we had two kittens for our daughters... that didn't last long! :)

Take some time. Remember the good stuff. And then think about getting another animal to share the love with. There are plenty of them out there that need a good home and it sounds like you have just the ticket. ;)

I think sometimes that we get so attached to our pets because they see us as who we would like to be. Sorry for the loss of your friend. I have lost many pets over the years and I am always ready to find another when they go, I guess its because I gain so much from their companionship.

Pets give such true love - I am sorry to hear of your loss. Over time, you will still recall the enjoyment you had with her.

Regards and best wishes

Jim

Thank you for all the kind thoughts and words. Actually, we do have two other cats, a brother and sister that were dumped as kittens when they were barely weened. Molly was an adult rescue also. We also have a rescued lab/chow mix. When the kittens arrived, we sent out emails, called all of our friends and prayed fervently, "God please find them a good home...we don't need or want any more pets". By the second day you couldn't have taken them from us with a gun. We laugh all the time and say we didn't know how bad we needed them, but God did (and mean it)! Through the years we have lost several pets and it's always hard but it was always an accident or very sudden illness that took them...no decision to be made on our behalf. This time we had to make the decision to euthanize her since she had degraded to the point of starting to suffer. We spent many hours caring for her and at the vet over the last week and there was no question it was time. Having to make that decision is worse than I ever imagined. Can't help but feel this tremendous sense of guilt and sadness. The guilt is misplaced, I know this but it doesn't change the emotion. This too shall pass.

Thank you again, everyone. It does help!

I am coming up very short on the right words to say, but I feel for you in your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. We have 4 cats now and they are all special kitties. In the last 40 years we have had to have 4 cats put down, the youngest was only 2 years old, the oldest was 21. The 2 year old was a heart breaker, she had Feline infectious parantenitis. They are wonderful and loving pets and they all have different personalities.:)

Give your remaining kitties some extra love. They probably miss Molly also. When we lost our Bummy cat after only 14 years, her Younger companion "Wheatie" only anout 3 years old at the time was totally lost and upset. He roamed the house for several weeks howling and looking everwhere for his friend. It was even more heartbreaking to see his distress. He didn't know what happened and there was no way to tell him.

This is "boots" our youngest at the moment.

Kernopelli, you speak so eloquently about your friend. May your memories remain fresh and sweet, and your pain lessen with each passing moment.

Ken_CT, that picture of Spooky deserves some kind of clever caption, I'm just not sure what it would be. Did she ever grow into those beautiful eyes?

Yup, like everyone else I'm sorry about the loss of your cat.

I was never much of a cat person, then we got Tyson 2 years ago, he is a real character. In the daytime he's a killer, hunts and kills anything he can find, at night he wants to come in and sleep on a made bed!

Was just thinking the other day, cats do offer something special to our lives and family. Can't figure out just what it is but I got that feeling.
