Hi All,
I have a 2816 geared.
I can drive on the highway to get fuel (about 1 mile). In high gear the tractor looses power and sometimes I
have to pull over and let it regain power. It only seems to do this when on the highway. Have not see any
problems with lower gears or doing anything else.

Anyone have any ideas on what is happing and how to fix?

Thanks in advance.
Bob

Check the fuel filter or any other restrictions in the fuel supply system.

Do you run it wide open in the lower gears? First guess fuel problems, second a governor issue.

If the fuel filter is getting dirty it may run well under little or no load but if you load it up like high gear would, it might not get enough fuel and die down on power, but when stopped it will regain engine rpm and continue. It just sounds like the other boys above mentioned, fuel issue. Look at the fuel filter in the back of the tractor and replace it. 5 minute job and bleed the air with a screw driver. Bet that's your issue. I have the same tractor in HST. Before I left to come out to work though I heard a slight noise in the back that would only go away when pressing the clutch. I hope its just out of adjustment but I won't be back home for another few weeks. fingers crossed.

Are you in 4x4?

From what you say I don't find that unusual.

I find that most tractors are geared a little too high in the top gear. Check out some others, in my experience most won't pull their highest gear against even a slight grade or load. Maybe half of them will pull high to full speed on the level. Although all will pull high on a slight downhill.

So I don't find what you are experiencing to be all that unusual. My guess is that yours takes a moment to recover because it has just been slugged or over-fueled by advancing the throttle too far to try to get it to pull too high of a gear. I'd say that's typical, and that if you try others you will see the same.

Thanks to all. I will check the fuel and let you know if that was the issue.

Also check your air filters.
