Here! back again after a busy summer. The brush hog ran quite well with chains but needs a couple of small mods. Brought the tractor home from the field and noticed a small leak in the driveway. I found the pipe plug behind the transmission /Hyd filter was loose and leaking. Tractor had its 50 hr check up 2 years ago and the fluid in the sight glass was always full. I had to tighten the plug and add 1.5 gallons of lo viscosity Hy Gard. The only change this year was brush hogging. Has any one experienced loosening of drain plugs before?? I guess this is a lesson!!

I always use a little Teflon tape on the top of the threads if they are not real tight, another trick that works well is to tighten it up, back it out 1 turn and apply a dab of low strength locktite to the threads and retighten. The tiny bit of locktite will keep it from vibrating loose during harsh sustained operations like brushog use. I find the use of locktite is really critical on machines like trenchers that literally try to shake themselves apart.

And pipe plugs can be tightened too tight...so be careful.

Or is this a plug that has an 0-ring around it for a gasket?

No just a pipe plug with a square head... Sits behind the filter mount on the 2305! Good point on the loctite.

I can't imagine there would be any vibration to loosen a properly tightened drain plug. I suspect it was not snugged up to begin with.
