I am looking at a YM1601D and wanted to get some advice, I have not seen the tractor in person only via photos. I am curious about this model as to whether it has a cast iron bellhousing or stamped sheet metal? Cant see with all the covers in the photo. Is there anything odd or strange about this model as far as parts, trans gear ratios etc? Thanks for any advice you guys can give!!

oldiron, Welcome to TBN

IMHO: 1601D and 1610D - It just might be the best 16 PTO HP 3 cylinder tractor that Yanmar ever made. The transmission is cast not stamped metal. As with anything, the condition, maintenance, hours and history (and your location) have a great deal to do with the best or worst purchase of any make tractor.

If you've owned tractors before then you certainly know what to look for...If you haven't, then I suggest (either way) you give it a considerable 'work out' before you purchase.

Good luck, Mark

Thanks for the info, but according to everything I have read it lists the hp at 20? must be 20 engine and 16 PTO?

Oldiron,
I own a 1601d. It's a great tractor. I agree with Mark777, 'specially about it being one of the best 3cyl 20HP tractors Yanmar ever made. I've found it to be very versatile. The front axle is also iron, not pressed steel. Really try and see the tractor in person before making a commitment. While photos are good, they really don't tell the entire story...

...Now for the dreaded question, is this a "re-manufactored" tractor? Contact me via PM if so and you want my opinion of these tractors... Good luck. -art

As the owner of a 1602D, let me add my agreement with the other owners. No problems in the 3 years I've owned mine....

Mark, is that a home made loader I see on your tractor? Have not see one like that before.

Actually no, it's from your neck of the woods. I found some here locally that an importer was installing. I tried them out and decided I would purchase the rest of what he had.

I traced it back out there...built in house by Cowlitz.
