After looking through a bunch of threads, I can't figure out what to purchase. I have easy access to Tractor Supply and Runnings, but also would like to get the right stuff.

Don't even mind (not really) paying for the good stuff if it means I don't have to worry about it for awhile.

Also curious about an aftermarket filter, unless I should get the name brand.

Thanks.

David

My dealer was ok with all aftermarket filters except the HST (which doesn’t apply here). Some people love the Tractor Supply oil and some hate it. My local Co-op has bulk Chevron THF-1000 so I haven’t used anything else. The THF-1000 has been good for me.

Haven't had issues with Tractor Supply oil in my 4530. I'm in CT. Bought it in MA.

I believe the non HST tractors are less picky than the HST's. If it was an HST then you need to be sure to get a good tractor "Hydraulic and Transmission" oil.

My yard tractors gets the hardest work in the winter,
starting in the cold, working in the cold.
So it gets a synthetic engine oil for easier starting and faster oil circulation.
I use Rotella T6 5w-40 it also happens to be one of the few approved oils for my pickup.
As far as the hydraulic/transmission fluid I'm using CEN PE CO multipurpose it is
also an excellent cold weather rated fluid that can handle the hotter temps in the summer.
My main tractor has a power shuttle so it has wet clutch packs for forward and reverse,
this fluid works well with them and with just a few minutes of warm up the hydraulics work well.
This is what works well for me, my tractor had a hard time starting in cold weather till I changed
the transmission/hydraulic fluid.

I have a 3550 PST. I did some thorough reading and cross referencing when I did my 50 hr service. Most of the oils in the owners manual are not common here in the US. I only run synthetics in my vehicles and equipment. I also compare the specs (oil rating, the specs from the testing they do to give it a certain grade, and the chemical make up) of the oils I'm considering, name brand or not.

I ended up with NAPA Premium Heavy Duty Tractor Hydraulic & Transmission Fluid (PN 85-405); meets or exceeds all of the Mahindra trans and wet brake requirements. NAPA is a pretty common chain, and I prefer their products over many others.

I did the engine oil and front axle oil at 50hrs and again went with a top grade synthetic.

Mobil Delvac Extreme 15w-40 Premium Synthetic Blend for the Engine.
Mobil Delvac 1 Gear Oil 75w-90 Full Synthetic for the Front Axle.

Oh, and for filters at my 50hr mark, I went with factory Mahindra filters from the dealer. I think I only found one of them that I could cross reference to another brand (probably was the engine oil filter). All filters were easily sourced from the dealer and the price was comparable to any other brand or buying it offline. At the very most, Next time I may look in to cross referencing the engine filter to a new style synthetic media filter, but the standard cellulose filters have obviously worked just fine for decades.

I plan to do a write up of my service in the future too with a bunch of pics; just been too busy.
