Yanmar YM1700
I understand that the YM1700 was a grey market tractor and that there are no service manuals. I am looking for something that will get me by. I'm a diesel tech by trade so I'm not afraid to try to figure anything out. I purchased this tractor several years ago with a spun main bearing and water in the cylinders.

I began rebuilding the engine this past winter but a shop fire through me for a loop. The tractor was mostly saved by I lost quite a few accessories. I am currently restarting getting it back together. I have the engine back in and now I'm trying to figure out what else was damaged in the fire. The starter, injectors and injection pump were salvaged but not sure if the injection pump and injectors are any good. Really looking for something that goes over the hydraulics, brakes and other parts from the clutch back.

I purchased a laser cleaner and I am planning on starting a side business. I have cleaned the frame. Video here:

Welcome to TBN! Where are you located? (Might want to update your location...)

Good luck on your rebuild.

That's scarily amazing. I'm impressed at how fast your laser system is. If it were me, I'd be wearing a leather welding jacket, just in case. I have a friend who burned the center part of his eye out when a reflecting object happened to fall through the laser that he was working with.

What do you think caused your shop fire?

All the best,

Peter

Hi Peter, thank you for the welcome. I am in Nampa Idaho, the tractor is for some land we own in Idaho City. The shop fire was caused by my neighbor that had a heat lamp in his dog kennel. The lamp caught the kennel on fire (dogs okay) which caught our adjoining fence on fire and then my shop. I lost a lot, tools, my wife's 1972 VW Squareback, and the majority of a 1953 MG TD we were also restoring. He was uninsured and so my insurance only covered a portion of my loss. The cars, tractor and about 30% of my personal belongings including tools were not covered.

As far as the laser, I use appropriate glasses or goggles as well as a respirator. My eyesight is important. I may be old but I still like to look.

All the manuals you would need are easily found on the YTOG for free.

Wish you were near me to do the laser cleaning.

And I noticed the BLUE wrapping to prevent the laser from accidentally vaporizing the wire harness. Seems you got a working knowledge on this. My prior employer has a large vented bay for this type of work. Just make sure you wear a face mask with the breather elements. The off gassing is extremely bad for the lungs. Or try to do this outside on a nice day. But then you need it shady to even see what is going on. LOL

Since you are out in Idaho, there are places out west to obtain parts. There is a reseller/refurb place north of Spokane, WA too.

I am using a 2000 watt continuous wave laser. Pulsed lasers are the way to go but they are easily twice as much for a unit that will chew through paint and rust like this does. It doesn't do too well with the blue tape, ignites pretty quickly. I should be using foil/aluminum tape. I am using it more as a boundary as it's very difficult to discern much with the dark googles on. I do wear an appropriate mask and have an exhaust fan running.

I drive 35-40k miles a year for work. Not hard to find bad drivers when you're on the road that much.
