I have a 1998 John Deere 4400 4x4 utility tractor. The mid mount pto shaft has broken off flush with the case. Is it difficult for me to remove the broken shaft and replace it with a new one?
Thanks,
Darrel

I know it's water under the bridge, but can you tell us how it got broken?

Maybe some photo of the location may help.

I recently purchased this tractor and it was broken at that time. I was told that they were operating the front mount power broom at the time and suddenly it stopped working. The shaft on the mid mount pto is sheared off flush with the bearing race. I can turn the broken section that remains in the case with my finger. Just not sure how difficult it will be to get the unit separated so we can replace the broken shaft. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks, Darrel

Should be very easy IMHO. 2 snap rings and the shaft is released after you remove the housing. Look at the on-line parts list for diagrams.
