Looking for used 770 tractor and 513 mower parts

Hello,

Just purchased a '98 770. Runs great, but I need to replace some parts and don't really want to pay dealer for new parts. Anyone out there have a dead 770 for parts? Also looking for parts for a 513 rotary mower.

I don't have the parts for you, but FYI, the Deere 670 and 790 shared quite a few parts with the 770. That will expand possible sources.
What parts do you need (just curious).

I suggest you not put much money in the 513 mower. Used 5' mowers are plentiful and not very expensive (relatively speaking).

Thanks Roy. Previous owner of the 513 mower removed the safety chains that used to hand at the front edge of the mower. Looking for a used chain hanger & hardware. It's pretty expensive from Deere...

Most of the stuff I need for the tractor is little stuff, but if I could find a used hood/grill in good condition I might buy that from a private seller...

You're right about those chain prices. You could make guards up using a stiff rubber (maybe an old truck mudflap). My Land Pride cutter uses rubber shields and I have hit a rock or stump a time or two with no flying debris.

I think the hood for the 670 might be too short (670 had a shorter wheelbase then the 770), but a 790 hood should work. Same with the grills. I think I saw a 790 hood on eBay a week or so ago. Can't recall the "Buy Now" price or the seller.
If it's just faded paint, compound it. The 670s, 770's and early 790's must have used a paint that wasn't as durable as the newer 790's as they do fade after a few years.

BTW, there is a TBN member with a 770. IIRC, his nick is JD GreenGrass. He has a really cherry 770 and might be able to point you to a good source of parts.

Parts sources other than dealer that I have used: Wengers (PA), Roberts (OH), and ebay. Make sure that you use the JDparts site to check prices. I've been suprised at how many parts the dealer really is the best source. You can also compare prices at various dealerships. I've found thay they can vary more than you'd think.

Congrats on the 770. It is a very willing tractor. Mine has amazed me from time to time.

I have said this often...My 770 is cherry and everything works as it should. The metal is great with no dents and minmal scratches. The motor is strong and I have no issues with the 3pt. hitch. My biggest challenge is to keep it that way.

I haven't needed any parts. None. My first check would obviously be the dealer or TBN. Like Roy says...the 790 is identical in many ways. I am quite certain the hood/grill is interchangeable between the 790 and 770.

Finding a 770 parts tractor would be an interesting search. I think you could search all the way to tim-buck-tu and not find one. I think what you would find is that many 770's are still running strong.
