Looking for older tractor purchase advice

I think my plan will be to watch for a lower price one, as long as the fel works and the 3pt. I've been watching for the last 6-8 weeks and have scene a few decent ones pop up under 4k. If I can't find one in that neighborhood I'd be willing to take a gamble. I can always spiff it up and sell it later on. Tractor market is strong here and anything with a fel usually is closer to 10k. It may not be tractor I keep forever but it will help me figure out what I really need vs want. And if I get tired of having to work on it constantly , I will know what features I want and will probably look at getting a much newer one later on. But budget calls for something much less than a 30k new one.

When on a budget, every modern convenience you add to the tractor reduces the quality of the tractor. You've already alluded to that so you'll do fine in your search. Stay on CL daily. When you find THE ONE post up some pics!!!

Will do, I'm going keep looking for a used one. But I can't lie, I keep seeing the MF gc series tractors pop up from some dealers and it is a tempting tractor.Everything I have read so far as been good on them. But I just can't decide if I really want to put out that kind of money, but I do like the 0% interest and relatively small monthly payments. Or even the ls mt125, both would be within budget for a payment setup.

Yep. The manufacturers are really good at that aren't they!!!! They'll do everything they can to convince you that a $15K tractor is within your $5K budget!!!!! This website is crammed full of buyers that agreed.

JD is advertising like CRAZY around here right now. There on the TV, Radio and even have billboards up.

There really pushing the subcompact 1series at just $99 per month lol, 2 series at $149 per month and a 3 series for $200 per month. All have FEL's and a few other things to sweeten the deal.

It looks amazing till you see what the E series compacts are all about.

Might be great for a good mower.

Yeah, I was looking at some of the sub compact but most are really small. I am seriously considering the ls xj2025 though and RCO in Austin is only couple hours away. I like that it's a large sub compact with about 1200lb fel capacity and has a 6 year powertrain warranty and has the quick attach bucket setup.

If you finance, you are often expected to carry insurance on the tractor. Good luck.

Didn't think about that, but looked it up and seems like it's not too bad of an expense. I'll call up my insurance company and ask for a quote. Thanks for bringing that up.

My insurance wouldn't cover my tractor, it's covered against theft and fire threw home owners insurance but not much more.

My bank didn't require insurance so I never went further.

When I priced it, it was $15-$20 a month, somewhere around there.

I secured insurance from Farm Bureau for my Workmaster last year. It was around $150 per year. Not required but I've always covered my units for the replacement cost.
