All valid concerns. He's a retired machinist and knows how to measure accurately and understands the tolerances involved. It would take replacing the 2 yokes for a different U-Joint, not just one, which is obviously more expensive.

Yeah, a quick look at yokes shows the cheapest at about 34 bucks. However, I saw a complete driveline from VEVOR, complete with clutch, for $109.99. Link: VEVOR PTO Shaft, 1-3/8" PTO Drive Shaft, 6 Spline Both Ends PTO Driveline Shaft, Series 4 Tractor PTO Shaft, 31.5"-41" Brush Hog PTO Shaft, Yellow PTO Shaft w/Slip Clutch for Bush Hog/Finish Mower | VEVOR US
Though significantly more money than a single u-joint, especially for a retired person, it would have modern parts, it would be all new, and might provide some peace of mind.

That first driveshaft probably won't work. I think this 65 dollar one probably will though:

I had no idea a whole driveshaft was that cheap.

I didn't either, I was just curious about yoke prices. Being retired myself I tend to be frugal.
