John Deere 750
Hi Y'all,

I have a 1984 John Deere 750 with bar tires and looking to switch to turf tires for the summer. I recently purchased a rear set on ebay and, while the bolt pattern and center bore are spot on, the backspacing is incorrect and the tires rub on the bolts holding the rockshaft lever support to the fenders. I'm hoping that one of you current 750 owners with turf tires on OEM rims could let me know what the backspacing measurement is. Considering the cost of new OEM rims it's probably still cheaper to get spacers for these rather than return and start over. Thanks in advance!

If you turn the rims around and mount them, will they fit then?

They will not. The deep side is 7.5 inches and the shallow side is 5.125 inches, which is still too deep.

I know what I would do. I would carefully grind off the welds holding the center in and reweld them where I wanted them. But not everyone has my skill sets. Wishing you well in your search.

Problem solved, I think. I got some 2 inch spacers for the rear and that gave me a little under 2 inches clearance between the tires and fender bolts. For the front, I gambled on a set of turf wheels designed for the 790. They only work when turned inside out, but since the rears are wide anyway it seems like a pretty nice setup. The turf tires are a bit softer than the bar tires, which is what I wanted since my field is kinda rough. The only thing I find odd about all of this is the front-to-rear wheel size ratio. With the turf tires installed there seems to be some binding in the MFWD system. I don't notice it while driving, but it takes noticeably more effort to move the 4WD lever out of 4WD. It never binds and feels smooth overall, but requires more effort. Although the turf tires are exactly what the part guide specs - 13.6-16 in the rear and 25/8.5-14 in front - the math works out that the turf fronts are about 8% bigger than the bar tire fronts. I have to think that the MFWD system is designed to tolerate a certain amount of ratio difference due to uneven tire wear and such. But I wanted to ask the question here, is there any reason to be concerned about this ratio difference? Thanks in advance!
