My friend had a rather sad experience with spray foam. His theory - "if a little is good, then more is better" got him in trouble. He sprayed foam in the open spaces between the sheetrock and concrete walls of his basement. The concrete walls were firred out with sheetrock on the exposed surface.

The foam expanded and blew the sheetrock right off the firring in several places.

The point being - know what you are doing and how to correctly use the foam.

I have used Dow froth packs on several occasions with great success. I use the closed cell blue board in the big open areas and come back and fill the gaps and glue everything together with the froth pack. the blue board saves a good bit of cost when compared to straight spray foam. Ratchet strap the jugs to a dolly and get to spraying. Very simple to use. Buy a few extra tips as they harden up dry foam when you stop to take a 10 minute phone call.

The neatest thing I have used a froth pack on was creating a temporary pond dam. We placed those large ecology concrete blocks (2x2x6) 3 high and 13 long to block off the the spillway. After the blocks were set, I came back and foamed all of the seams on what would be the water side of the dam. It was water tight where foamed! Had a little seepage on the bottom and sides where it was dirt and fill.
