Looking for a SCUT or Large GT, Tasks: Tilling, Mowing, Hauling, Brush hog (maybe)

I recently bought a place with about 7 acres and am finding my old riding lawnmower just not up to the task anymore, so I am looking to replace it with a SCUT or GT, however I'm not quite sure what my options are

Price:
1000-1500 bucks

Requirements:

• Ability to till 6-8 inches deep, deeper would be nice
• Mower deck for taking care of about 2 acres of lawn
• ability to rough mow foot tall grass at times
• Sickle bar for mowing rough areas (brush hog maybe?). This isnt a hard requirement

Tractors I've been looking at

• Power King 1614
• Wheel Horse
• Simplicity
• Case 44* series
• Gravely? (no idea if any of them have rear pto)

Any suggestions as to specific tractors that can accommodate a decent tiller and be expandable out to the future would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Power King 1614 on craigslist right now with the dual transmissions, and a 48 inch deck for 1500, but I've heard that the power kings have bad gearing and will bog down in tall grass.

out of that list, i'd pick wheel horse first, and the case after that. the old WH were very rugged. i think you may have a hard time outfitting your tractor with the tiller plus the other stuff for $1500, but you never know--its probably do-able.



i know everyone hates them, but for 7 acres, i;d buy a decent lawn tractor to mow the lawn and a 2n/8n/9n with a sickle bar and a one bottom plow for dirt work.

I can't help you a lot with your decision, but just be aware thet the PTO on the Power King tractor is turns backwards, just like the Farmall Cub.

Get a Ford 8n or 9n. They are in your price range. Everything else isn't enough for 7ac.
Even a newer 2000'ish used Chinese tractor would work if you are handy with tools. Although it'll be more expensive than the older Fords.

Theres a yanmar 146 diesel about an hour from me, but from what ive read it looks like if it ever breaks, im completely out of luck, as parts just dont exist. Same with implements, and it doesnt come with a tiller, which I need. Other than that, it seems like an awesome tractor.

For about $1500 you can buy a new King Kutter 48" tiller with slip cllutch that will handle your tilling needs and will work with most garden tractors or small compacts.

I would look for a a good used tractor to go with it at additional cost.

Good tiller, but you may have trouble using with a garden tractor. Most garden tractors use brand specific tiller or a self powered tiller. Would work great on most scut tractors.

Guess it depends on the garden tractor, the KK48" would work well with my Deere x749. I use a 60" Howard HR4 with mine and should add the x749, 1026R and 2320 all use the same tillers.

So a point of confusion I havent been able to clear up is as follows

What series of JDs have rear PTO? Its confusing to me, and on that same note, do any Cub Cadets have it?
