Tractor
Kubota L2350
Hey all its Ken. I live in Alexander, Arkansas. I own a L2350 kubota with a front end loader and all the implements, rock rake, blade, boom pole, tiller, bushog, aerator, etc. I really haven't had any problems with the tractor, other than the steering gear. I have managed to break it 4 times. I have had to replace the front wheel drive axle bearings and pinion gear a couple of times. This tractor has been abused. I have used it to clean up what the timber cutters left behind on twenty acres. Its kinda beat up but it always starts when I hit the key. I am now looking for something I can use to mow the land that I've cleared, the tractor is slow and doesn't do a very good job. Does anyone out there have anything that they use that is quick, dependable, and does a good job?:confused2:

Re: looking for a mower

Tractordata.com lists the specs on kubota L2350 as 25 HP with PTO HP at 20.5. You will be limited as to what size rotary mower that your tractor will be able to utitilize sufficently. You stated that your land was logged previously. Was it selected or clear cut logging? If you have any manuals with your tractor, I would suggest reviewing them. You didn't include much other info such as the lay of your property, turf or agriculture tires;etc. How old is the overgrowth and what height? Are the many stumps and are they cut above ground adequately for easier removal with your FEL? If you haven't already done these, I would suggest greasing, chainging fluids and filters. In otherwords, overall general maintenance. GOOD LUCK and happy tractoring.

Hi Ken,

I have a similar issue. I had some logging done on about 20 acres of my land and they did an Ok job of cleaning it up but as you know you can't mow it. What did you find to be the most effective tool for cleaning up your land besides a lot of sweat?

I am concerned about disturbing the soil too much as every time I do I have 6 foot thistles the next year.

Ken,

So you have a 4 or 5' bush hog now and thats too rough of a cut and too slow? Are you cutting all the 20 acres or a portion say 5 acres? Is it a weekly mowing or "as needed" when it gets 8" say every few weeks?

If you have removed the stumps and graded then you could get a finish mower for your tractor but its not going to change the speed or time to cut. If you are cutting all 20 acres then you need a larger tractor, and something in the 8-10' mower width.

If you are cutting 5-8 acres I would suggest a 72" Zero Turn or Front mount mower (similar to a zero turn but 4 wheel drive usually). These are not inexpensive units $6-12K or more for a commercial unit. If your ground is rough consider one with a suspension.

I have only 2 ac of reclaimed forest I cut with a 52" ZTR with suspension (Ferris 2000) then another acre or so of lawn and I can get that done in a little over an hour.
