Looking for a Detroit 3-53

Greetings...
Looking for a used but running Detroit Diesel 3-53 to put in a Dynahoe...we've got 2, one is running, the other we hope to have running soon. They're both older "190" models, and will both be for sale at some point (once we've restored them and used them a bit

).
So, if you've got an old 3-53 sitting around in something, please let me know!

Adelman's truck parts in Canton, Oh....... Also Sam Winer motors in Akron, Oh both usually have a large inventory of govt surplus 3-53's for around $1500 each like new in the crate. Use google for the phone #'s..........Tom

Thanks...I'd heard of Adelman's-I'll check out the other one in Ohio. My only concern with them is the aluminum block and the way it's set up-the dynahoe set up (and iron block) is a bit different (we're still trying to finish modding the first "gamma goat" engine we got (cheap /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif) to work in our first dynahoe).

Hi Just registered tonight. What is the configuration? I just bought one that has the accessories on the wrong side. Ru-built years ago and stored. Originally from a skidder( E-bay) it was a 50337000 series the 7000 means the blower is on the right as you are sitting in the drivers seat ( if monuted like a car) To late I bought a operators manual and a repair CD on E-bay. No expert here at all. Supposedly these are very "modular" So I can probably fix the one I have with the parts off this one. I am trying to fix an old "michigan" / Clark?? BL-700 And its engine is a 50335210. The decoding is that 5033 says it is a 3-53 and the fifth digit is configuration( 1 thru 4 rotate backwards), and the other digits are valves per cylinder and some other info. I have the book and can decode the product number that is on the valve cover. I paid 1725 for this engine ( too much it does not fit) and it is only usefull for parts. I still need a 5000 series with the 4 valve per cylinder if I dump this one. Most detroits can be swapped around They have matching holes on each end and both sides. You can flip the manifolds, blowers, and pumps over to another side.

Ah, so your the one that wound up with that motor

It took a few weeks before Adelman's had another cast iron block runner come in, but one did in the configuration I needed for the dynahoe (left blower, right exhaust). I'd call Adelman's and try and sell yours-I was surprised how cheap you got that one considering the going rate of a rebuilt 353, but if there's no documentation of the rebuild I guess it's just considered a runner...and I paid a hundred or so less than you did for one through Adelmans with a 30 day warranty on the block and crank as I recall. Nice folks over there too.

I've spoken to another fellow and the 353's are VERY modular, and just about anything can be done if you have the know-how (which we don't, but he's going to help us out). Try and find someone local to give you a hand.

FWIW I think Adelmans had aluminim engines with cast sleeves with a 4spd tranny for about what you paid...you might want to look into if it'll fit your rig (it wouldn't fit ours, so it may drop in to yours....).
