And remember, both Chris and I were quoting capacities at maximum height...both machines are considerably more capable at lift lower then maximum...the lower the lift, the more they'll pick up, safely.
So, unless you're loading a dump truck (better be a small one, neither the 2520 or 790's loaders go that high), these machines are more then adequate for any residential owner's needs.

Anyway...so, now Tony's got all the info he needs about the 790 and 2520. All he has to do is figure out how much he wants to spend and what tractor (maybe another model or brand altogether) fits his needs the best.

This just goes to show the specs are all over the map - this link shows 902 lbs -so what can you believe from Deere? its confusing and dosent do the machines justice

That spec sheet callout of 902 pounds is at the pivot point...in other words, no bucket or forks.
So, take that number and subtract the weight of the bucket, grapple or forks (or anything else that can mount on the loader frame), you get your actual usable payload.
When you look at the schematic for the loaders, they can be a bit confusing.

Frankly, the only time I see this coming into play at all is with the forks. Even then, I don't think most of us are going to weigh the payload. We'd just try to pick it up...if it doesn't lift, we'd reduce the load a bit.

Heaviest thing I ever picked up was an old boiler the previous owner of our home left behind the out building. This was when I still had my 670 (basically the same as the 790 with a smaller engine). I have no idea how much it weighed...I just know I couldn't push it..even two of us...to rock it a bit.
The 670 lifted it...and it was like I had no power steering at all! The front tires were so flat, they could barely roll (reminder...up the pressure on the fronts before picking up heavy stuff!). Also, even with a heavy old back blade, I was on precarious grounds moving that boiler.
Anyway, that little tractor did do the job.

LOL.. . Funny you should ask that roy. Yap i done did that to. in high gear strung out it will go 14.6 miles an hour according to my nabors 99 blazer with digital dash.....

I had the backhoe on. i think with out it. i could break 15 MPH.....
once again i think JD says 13 MPH.... should have known.

your right about lift , lower you are more you can lift. but thats ok..
i sure would not want to lift 1800 pounds over my head.....

I did pick some concrete bags all the way up that was around 11 hundred. but i was useing the pallet forks. so your still talking 1400. anyway. i am very pleased with its performance.

That is funny, my wife likes the 790 better because she was raised on a big farm and thinks anything smaller than the 790 is a toy (I know better). I sure would love to have each for a weekend to play. I am sure there are chores each does better. I guess I have to decide what I will spend most my time doing. I also may buy more property in the near future and have to consider this too. I am leaning towards the 2520 for its ease of use and listening to Chris2520 he is the machines best salesperson.

Well , I am no sales person for sure. what everone else is telling you is what thay read on an incorrect peace of paper on a web page that i will fight til my dieing breath....

What i did do , is tell you and show you from someone that owns the dang thing. that is not afrade to use it. I know what it can and cant do. cause i done it. and it ant on that JD web page...I just gave you the facts from my experince. You decide...

BTW, Tony...Just out of curiousity, have you looked at the Kubota B7800 or New Holland TC 30?
These are both pretty nice machines. They're the size of a 790, physically.
The B7800 wasn't out when I got the 790, but I did look into the TC 30 quite thoroughly. It's a very capable machine...again, it's an older, more "tractor like" design...so that might keep your wife happy. When I first looked at tractors, it was a smaller Kubota...my wife was with me at the time and she made the comment about small tractors looking like overgrown lawn tractors too...so I know what you mean there!
I was pretty close to signing on one, but found my 790 (which was used) for about $3K less.
The New Holland dealer I was working with posts on TBN (Messick...but since they have more then one store, I don't know if the TBN poster is from the same store).
Just another alternative..

What do you use for a ballast that heavy? The JD ballast box filled with concrete or rock doesn't weigh nearly that much.

acualy wayupnth , if you fill it with pure portland cement. it is close to 1100 pounds with the box wight . Kennyd posted the specs a while back.
I filled mine with pure portland. I know it is heavy.
according to kennys figures. mine should weigh at least a 1000 + then you got the wight of the IMatch.
