Hi, new potential tractor buyer here with the usual questions. I own a mostly wooded 25 acre lot with a 300foot gravel driveway, 200 ft diameter pond, and no landscaping.

I want to be able to cut firewood and drag it along with all my own finish landscaping. I have a friend who owns a large backhoe/loader who is letting me use it for septic and stump pulling.

I have been looking at the smaller 20-30 hp 4wd tractors with loaders and backhoes and they run about 23-24k. A local dealer has a 2005 Kubota L2800 Gear drive 4x4 asking 16500 with 450 hrs on it. Comes with the loader and backhoe so about 10k less than new. My question to everyone is, is the price fair? I'm not sure if 550 is high hours for the age and really even if that is a concern. It seems like a reasonable deal to me.

I have never used or owned a tractor so any help or advise is much appreciated.

Thanks

Jon

I would think you should be able to get that machine new for 22,000. I paid 22,500 for mine and its a HST. That said, sounds like a fair deal if the hoe is in good shape. I would still try for 15,500. If you plan on running the PTO at all, know that the gear drive 2800 does not have live pto, so evey time you shift, you will kick the pto off.
