A neighbor has a Ford 1100 that hasn't been used in years. It has a FEL, bush hog, finish mower and snowblower. I'm interested in making a fair offer for it, but am concerned because it hasn't been run in maybe 10 years. I suspect it will not start without some work, so I will not be able to hear it run before buying.

What are my options and what should I look at and what might be a fair price?

They're tough little machines and easy to work on. Parts are a challenge. I was offered $4800 for mine 2 years ago with FEL and box blade. Mine has been restored (cosmetically) and runs like new and has 4500 hours on it. My FEL is home built and the tires have sun rot. So I would look for oil leaks, leaks around the lift arms, front axle, etc. I would put a battery to it and just see if the starter cranks. I would not start it after 10 years of no use. If it looks clean and they'd take $5k-$6k for the package I'd buy it and go through it with a fine tooth comb and use the heck out of it.
