I am looking at a tan 99 F350 super cab 4x4, clean ga vehicle with no rust. There is some minor body damage on the passenger side of the bed and clear coat peeling on the driver side. The rest of the body and paint are in really good shape except for the paint color is faded only on the passenger side. The body is faded almost white from the rear tail light to the rear passenger door and then it transitions back to the original nice tan paint all over the rest of the body. I've never seen anything like it and was wondering what would cause this to happen?

Nice truck! kind of like that fade look.

What would cause it?

Most likely inferior workmanship or substandard paint materials, or both. If I understand, the picture you showed is your best attempt to explain what the truck looks like with a major difference being that the truck in the picture is supposed to be faded and the truck in question is not supposed to be faded.

So, I would say that the truck has been repainted. As a buyer, at minimum I would be questioning why it was repainted. Was it wrecked? Rust damage? Did they fix other issues to the same standard as the paint? Just something to consider.

Was it painted that way? If not it was a cheap paint job.

That's a F-150 , not a F-350. Also that is not a 1999 front end, it is later. Seems like a wreck that was dolled up to me.

I don't have a picture of the actual truck but it definitely wasn't painted that way. The pic I posted was just to explain how the color fades from tan to white. I've had many older trucks with faded hoods and roofs but this is different in that the cab, roof, hood and front fenders are all perfect. It's only from the rear bed to part of the rear passenger door that has faded which is unusual. Maybe it was repainted many years ago. It was probably a work truck. Would any industrial chemicals splashing on it cause fading?

The OP should note more clearly that the picture is not of the truck he's asking about.

Wow. I'm just going to remove the picture if it is that confusing.

Lets get back on topic.

Take it to a body shop and ask their painter what they think. Get a estimate to fix it so it looks right and use that to reduce your purchase price. Buying used you never know what parts were replaced or repaired and someone will always have a story like a chemical lightened it. Buyer beware or know what your getting.
