Simon - and others...

I FINALLY got 220 out to my garage and fired up the plasma....and I have a few questions that I had trouble finding the answers to:

The first is eye protection - I used my auto darkening helmet but it seemed too dark for using with plasma.....what is the recommended shield to be used?

Secondly, is there a chart that tells me what amerage to use on different metals/thickness? The machine was set on 26 amps and I cut some very thin to 1/4" steel.

And, is there a video or pictures of what the cutting torch should look like when it need to be changed (consumables) or a way to know when it needs to be changed?

Hi Scotty,

We recommend you use an AUTO-DARKENING helmet with Grinding mode. We have these in stock and they allow for better visibility. If you do not want to spend the extra money to protect the face and eyes, you can use dark sunglasses or even working glasses that are tinted.

There is no chart that we currently offer, but the rule of thumb is start at max amps and turn down on test cuts to pro-long your duty cycle while still getting the maximum cut quality. Generally, 30amps is fine to cut most metals!

There are videos on our youtube channel, but you can also talk with Tim who is pretty knowledgeable with plasma cutting. If you want dial him at Extension 210

Anything else, let me know!

Simon
