Lombardini Engine maintenance

I have a Goldoni Base 20 with about 200 hours on it that is in the shop for maintenance. It has a Lombardini air cooled diesel in it, a common industrial motor. Lombardini calls for 100 hour maintenance to be done for the cooling fins. That requires removing the blower housing, then the tin work surrounding the piston jugs. The tractor looks like brand new, but I thought I would check the blower housing just for interest. When I removed it, I was shocked. It looked like a squirrel had been nesting in it and was filled with dirt. I used a shop vac to remove the debris, then blew it all out carefully with compressed air. It's a hassle to remove the tin work, but thought I should remove it to ensure it was completely clear. This is a picture of what was still under the tin on the rear cylinder (the front was about the same). These engines are very robust, but apparently do need the fin maintenance. Just a heads up for anyone with an Italian vineyard tractor. I am going to mount a quarter inch screen on the blower housing inlet when I put it all back together.

I would say that all air cooled tractor engines would be the same. I know that Deutz & Same recommend the same cleaning. I know of farmers that run Deutz tractors on batch grain dryers, that say they clean them daily. Think maybe, they put zippers on them. Trac

I have a Lombardini 6ld260 in an old Wheel Horse. Occasionally I have to remove the blower housing to clean out a mouse nest. Usually they get in there over winter when it sits idle. During the summer it gets used and they stay out.
They get into my dad's JD 214 sometimes also.

I had that happen when I kept my mower in the old shed (former 2 horse stall, dirt floor arrangement) out back. Started it up in the spring, and one mouse came out from around the shroud. I drove it up to the garage so I could remove the cowling to clean the fins, and found the remains of 2 more the flywheel fan cut in half. I decided it was time to clean the garage so I could keep it in there. So far, no critter issues.

Sorry guys, haven't been around for a while. I purchased one of my Goldoni's across the line in Idaho and one here out of the Okanagon. I also have a Pasquali that was a former Military tug out of California.
