KennyD / J_J- Can't help me with this? Or is it just not worth the effort, and I should 'spring' a $129- for a replacement? TIA. ~Scotty

I have never had one of those apart, but it should be a matter of separating the motor and replacing the seal or bearing as required. Some rebuilds work and others keep on leaking. Do you have the break down on the pump? If not, maybe Surplus Hydraulics or Northern will send or fax you a break down.

Scotty,

Is your pump leaking when cold of hot, and is it leaking with no load or only with load.

Did you ever take it a part and replace the seals. You an get an idea on how much leakage, by tying a napkin on the bottom of the pump. After the pump has run for an hour, check how saturated the napkin is.

J-J- I loaned it out to two differents friends. The first one worked it 'pretty good' for a couple weeks. The other was just an over-nighter! When I got it back, it's leaking just sitting in the driveway! The tank is a little higher than the pump, the unit was warm, and it left quite a puddle in short order. Now that I think about it, I topped it up with the only Hydro Oil I had handy before I sent it out the second time (JD Low-Vis). Maybe I'll just change out the filter & oil, before "wrench-time"!!!!!!

I don't know if the viscosity of the oil has anything to do with the leak, but I think that regular engine oil would work just fine. All the Power-Tracs, and a lot of commercial large equipment, and Zero turns, use 10W-40 engine oil or synthetic oil as the hydraulic fluid.

Brief update- Unit off machine. Definate 'slight' play at shaft end bearing/seal. Certainly the culprit! Oh great! Torx-headed bolts! Eight of them on the far end! A seven mm six-point just barely fits, but I know I'd round them off. Now just where do I go to get a Torx socket, that I'll probably never use again...... ~Scotty

Well, opened it up! Found a ten-piece set of e-sockets for less than $20- at TSC! Not much inside to fear, no springs etc. Just gotta watch for some small o-rings, and one woodruff key. Biggest concern is the two gaskets that are in between the three sections! Man, there're the thinnest foil I've ever seen! One red, one gold. Got the seal knocked out, and pulled out the bearing using a 1/4" theaded rod with a fender washer on one side, and a washer that was just a whisper shy of the bearing OD on the other. Walked it out with a 1/4-20 nut. Installed in the reverse fashion. Got the parts, bearing, seal, and internal snap-ring from a local bearing house for ,<$10-! All back together, I'll mount it this weekend! We'll see!!!!! :D ~Scotty

Bad Pics, Sorry, Still miss that simple resizing function that I had on my last computer. But I guess that wouldn't help the focus, in the second pic! :(

What did you do about those foil gaskets? I took one apart once and could not get replacements for those gaskets . I think they are like shims and set the clearances.
