Where am I going to find this stuff? My bagger for my Kubota BX has two gear boxes that call for 5 oz of this stuff per gearbox. My local dealer said it is not sold in consumer sized packages.

Any ideas what I should do? Good places to look? My dealer called Kubota and they were like "He want's to change that gearbox oil???"

Take a quart sized container to the dealer and buy that amount from their bulk supply.

If you do a goggle seach on ..."Amoco Permagear EP220"....you'll find a BIG list of equivelant products as compared to JUST Amoco's product.

AGMA 5EP Amoco Permagear EP220 or equivalent

I've also tried to find it. I did a seach, 5EP is the type of additive package and EP220 is the weight. I even e-mailed one of the oil companies and was told they don't sell it by the quart. It is mostly used in factories for machines and normally sold in 55 gallon drums. I've asked at my dealer and was told they just use 90w gear oil. That doesn't sound correct. If anyone finds a way to buy it by the quart please post. Thanks

Basically your dealer is right.
ISO220EP = AGMA 5EP = SAE90 gearoil API GL5
The GL5 rating is for the extreme pressure additive (EP) in the gear oil. All the oils have a similar viscosity, just a differnent designation by the group that catagorizes it.
ISO- International Standards Organiztion
AGMA- American Gear Makers Association
SAE - Society of Automotive Engineers
API - American Petoleum Institute

For your usage a Gear Oil, API-GL 5, SAE 90 would work just as good if not better then the original fluid. GL 5 oils are standard service fill in the transmissions and rear axles of many vehicles.

The AGMA classifcation becomes very important when using oil for worm gears with a rating of 7(ISO 460) and up when additives can start attacking the bronze in the gear.

*edit* If a SAE 90 is hard to find a SAE 85W-140 will also work.

I hope this helps.

I have been looking for EP220 (in less than a 5 gallon container!) without success. My Kubota dealer didn't know what EP220 was & finally put me in touch with Kubota USA technical services. Kubota tech. svs. told me that they would like to simply recommend a 90wt gear oil, but the box mfr insisted on EP220. I finally tracked down the gear box mfr (Curtis Machine Co., Dodge City, KS). The Curtis tech svs. rep. indicated that, while they do ship the boxes with EP220, the use of any EP90 is fine. After all of this, the rep finally asked me why I was changing the oil! Note: because of the way the gears mesh in this box, an extreme pressure (EP) oil is essential!

Did you find some EP90? If so, where? What manufacturer?
It amazes me that a manufactureer would build a tool that requires an unobtainable lubrication. The bufoons at my secondary local dealer (a little further away, recomended I use a grease!
Thanks!

Once more around the board as I prep to actually (finally) do this. Are we all in agreement that a 90 weight EP will do it?

The previous company appears to have this stuff -- Gear Oil 220 (AGMA 5EP) 1000 SUS-- (but you have to call to order). Am I alright with that stuff if I can get it?

Thanks guys!

Just pick a good SAE 90 GL5 rated gear oil and you will be fine. If you can not find a straight weight I would go with a 80W/90 multi-viscosity. The ISO 220 viscosity clasification is usually found in industrial applications. SAE viscosity clasifications are most frequently found in automotive/truck/tractor applications. Different industries use different viscosity clasification systems.
