Local boy makes it big

I know it's not such a big deal to you guys but my good friend's son just got picked up by the Indianapolis Colts in the 6th round of the draft this weekend. His name is Dave Pugh and he's graduating from Virginia Tech where he's been playing college ball. Pretty exciting for a small town like ours. His mom and dad are good hard working people and it's great to see the "good guys" get something for a change. Hopefully he'll cut it in the NFL as well as he did in college!

Anytime a "local" boy or girl makes good, it's a big thing. Congratulations to him.

tony, what posistion does he play? hope it,s defense,"cause tony dungy is quite a defensive minded coach. his offense needs a little kick in the a%@! good luck to him...i hope i see him in some preseason games and maybe regular season games....tgello

He is a defensive lineman. He said he talked to Tony Dungy for the first time on Sunday. Tony told him he liked him because he reminded him of some of the players he had in Tampa last year. At 6'3" 278 lbs Dave is on the small side for the NFL but Dungy likes his lineman smaller and quicker.

The way it happened was interesting. Dave said most of the players have no clue whatsoever who might be interested in them. It's all a big mystery. While watching the draft on TV wringing his hands waiting for his name to come up, his phone rang. "This is Tony Dungy with the Indianapolis Colts...are you healthy?" Y-y-yes sir, Dave replied. "Good because we're going to draft you in about 30 seconds. Would you like to be an Indianapolis Colt? " Yes Sir I would! he said. Pretty neat. So remember his name and look for him to play well!

I don't follow the ball, but I agree that anytime a local person can make a name for themselves it is a big deal. Lets see some game time.

That's great! It's always a special event when a local person becomes successful. A friend of mine from High School was selected for the Detroit Tigers farm club, and we thought that was a big deal! Unfortunately he never made it any further. Here's hoping your friends son does make it!! If he does, you'll have to get him to wear a TBN hat on the sideline sometime!!/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

one of my good friends used to pitch for the astros and a guy i went to tech. school used to pitch for the cardinals. was never really all that interested in baseball or watching it,to boreing. its pretty funny, my friend who pitched for the astros doesn't even watch baseball either. says it boreing.....tgello

If you think about it, every one of those kids in the draft is a "local" boy to someone.
