Data from the 420 Operators Manual.

Max vertical loads at 500 mm in front of bucket pivot pin for various heights:

At max height of 80.6 inches -- 757 pounds
With bucket at 59 inches -- 1247 pounds
With bucket on ground using lift cylinders only -- 2141 pounds
With bucket on ground using rollback cylinders only -- 2291 pounds

The loads as measured at the bucket pivot pin are of course much higher, but I didn't quote them since you can't lift anything useful there.

I was going to get a tank for on site fueling and thought I'd better find out how much I can lift out of the truck before I get everything, fill the tank with fuel and then find I have to just leave it in the truck till I use some of it. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Without splitting hairs, a 150 gallon tank should hold about 1200 pounds in fuel so filling that thing up and lifting it out of the bed of a truck could be cutting it close with the weight of the bucket, tank and frame. Any thoughts?

Why not get the empty tank and have fuel delivered? Then you don't have to reload/unload it every time you get it filled.

While I haven't yet checked in to delivery, I assumed that no one would do a free delivery on such a small amount of fuel and that that charge would more than negate any savings. Also, I have a place just over a mile down the road that handles off road diesel so taking the tank to be filled wouldn't be a big deal.

Gary,

How much$$ are the tanks, you may be better off getting two tanks and 3/4 filling them. As you said that may be cutting it close and thats one load you don't want to spill.

I think I can get one tank free just by taking it off an old International semi tractor I've got out in back. It'll end up at auction and going to salvage as a parts truck or off to Mexico or points south where no DOT guidelines apply. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
