Loader Loader bucket capacity

I could measure it out but too lazy. I have a ll3103 loader on a R3039. Any one know how much material the bucket holds. My manual says 14.5 ft 3 what ever that means.

27 cubic feet in a cubic yard...so the bucket holds about half a cubic yard...

How would you have figured it out after measuring?

How do you measure a loader bucket capacity short of dumping a load in a known container? It’s not a simple math problem like the volume of a rectangle would be. Even then it fails to compensate for a heaped load.

I speculate loader bucket capacity is determined using water.

I went to look at a JD310 backhoe yesterday. The stamp on the front bucket said 1 yard. It’s a lot more bucket than twice as big as a little tractor bucket. I’m thinking it’s probably actual bucket volume where the tractors probably use heaped volume.

It only takes a bit of math/geometry...no need for volume displacement tests etc...

Haha,ha - that's good Jeff. I have a "round 72" model 1811. The "struck capacity" is 15.5 cu. ft. (half a cu yd). Struck capacity = the volume of water the container would hold if it were watertight.


Old Grey - the designation - ft3 - stands for feet cubed or cubic feet.
