If you look at Attachments on this forum. There is someone asking about Cat. 0 backhoe. Someone linked them to another thread about a little Woods backhoe.....

I have sold a dozen or so 1100d's and 1300d's with loaders. 1100 has a 36" bucket, and the 1300 a 42". Landscapers out here love em. And as California said, they work great on steep hillsides. I sold an 1100d to a huge guy (over 6' tall and 250# +) that lives on the top of a steep hill. He uses it for brush control. If it gets tippy, he just steps off the thing. As others have posted, you need to make sure the frame is re-enforced properly. I have a small backhoe unit that works on a 1300 size tractor. Never tried it on an 1100. Not really enough weight to handle it. The YM135d is almost the same as the 1100d and the YM155d almost the same as the 1300d. Both the YM135d and the YM155d were sold here in the U.S. with a loader from the factory.

Hey Jim:

Thanks for the reply. Is there a particular loader brand/model that will fit the 1300 without any major modifications (other than the aforementioned Yanmar OEM one). Also, the small backhoe you mentioned...is it a unit you make? If not, what brand and estimated price range?

Thanks a bunch!
Dave

Hey folks:

I had a note from someone with some good advice. Apparently, the 1100 and 1300 have some sort of bushing in the front drive mechanism that has a tendency to wear out and result in stripped front drive gears. Models larger than the 1300 have bearings rather than these bushings, and fair better under heavy loads on the front like you'd see with a loader. Anyway, I thought this might be useful information to anyone else considering this.

Dave

Oh man Jim, did you have to put the "+" after the 250#!!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif And here I thought we were friends! Seriously, Jim is right, although I haven't tipped it ALL the way over, I have used what I call the Ejection Method: 1. I always work with the upside of the hill on the left. 2. If the tractor starts to tip, I spin the wheel to the right. 3. As I LEAP, not step, off the tractor to the left (uphill side). Only had to do it once, tractor and body ok, pride slightly bruised.

Just a quick note. I have been using a YM135D(virtually the same as an 1100D) with a 'factory' Johnson FEL and a Yanmar YB 650 backhoe for a couple of years now. Yes, it is slower to dig with than a bigger tractor but it does well enough. The main drawback is the lack of mass and the necessity of rebuilding the steering box every so often. I have added extra weight and filled tires.
