Load Leveler Hitch with Torsion Bars

Mike, can you be more specific about where you find a pintle hitch with weight distribution in that link? I guess I'm overlooking it, but I haven't found it.

Bird, It's a mix & match parts deal. For example weight distributing shank #3210 + torsion bar head #3279 + pintle hitch adapter #PA-1 + pintle hook #63014. Although the torsion head is made to also be the ball mount it will work without a ball, mount the pintle adapter on the shank above the head & the hook on the adapter.
The right hand picture in the first link shows a head mounted on a shank (without a ball mounted), just bolt the pintle adapter above the head. You just have to pick a shank that has at least 4 holes & suits your vehicle/tongue height. MikeD74T

Mike
Have you used this arrangement or did you figure it out from the catalog?
I see how it could work and if it will I would be very interested in doing it.
I have always had a dislike for ball hitches on bigger trailers but I do think the Weight distribution would be of great benefit to us with smaller pull trucks.
By the way thanks for all the effort you put into the parts numbers and e-trailer information I to have dealt with them before and been very pleased with their service.

Thanks again

Maybe send of an email to Reese hitch or similar company and maybe get an answer.

For myself I think I'd stick with a ball as the pintle will put many different varying strains on the torsion bars maybe even to the point of overloading them. Set them to loose and they do you know good.

Mike, are you saying you've actually done this, or only that you think it can be done. I can see a number of reasons that I don't think the parts you listed will go together. I especially see no way for that PA-1 adapter to attach to the 3279 torsion bar head, unless I'm overlooking something. They appear mutually exclusive to me.

Jsborn, I don't have a pintle hitch but have seen one with weight equalizing so I knew how it was done. Just searched for the parts on Etrailer. Give them a call if you have questions. Another thing I've seen that is overkill for you, but is availible, is a pintle with an air piston that pushes back on the ring to eliminate slack. http://www.thehollandgroupinc.com/NR/rdonlyres/AB696A01-391D-43DB-A5D9-33FD9319A9FC/0/XLPH32902RevD.pdf PH300 series.

Bird, The PA adapter does not bolt to the torsion head, it bolts to the shank above the head. MikeD74T

OK, now I've caught on, Mike. I guess it would work, but I've never seen any in use.

As ...Barry said, most don't have a need with heavier trucks/pintle trailer combinations. I've only seen one but it was unusual enough that I took note of the assembly. I have a weight equalizing hitch with a ball so it was interesting to see that if necessary I could convert without buying a lot of duplicate parts.

I like to look over different stuff in detail in case a need arises. Also why I view TBN. Something I recently explored, that is probably familiar to you, is towed vehicle braking systems. Last time I towed a vehicle with a tow bar ( '68 I think) they hadn't been invented yet. MikeD74T

Might be able to put the parts together and it would be a stronger hitch, but it's sure as heck gonna beat up the trailer frame, paint job and probably the torsion bars, once it gets to moving around in transit on the pintle hitch.

Nobody makes money selling parts that don't work, but I agree that it's possible to break anything. I've only seen this once, it appeared to have been in use for some time with no signs of damage. It caught my eye, was self explanatory, but I didn't see or talk to the owner. MikeD74T
