I hate it to, I have a small salvage yard and keep it picked up. I have come home and the garbage crew break a bag draggingit over the side of the bin and leave it in the road. The town uses this road as it parrallels the main road to go to the dump to stay out of traffic. They often bring rubbish to the county site from town like mattresses and couches. One week they had a clean up week and our little road got 18 couches and arm chairs left on it. It falls off the town flat dumps. I was moving them and taking them to my day job dump but it really hacked me off burning myy fuel for their lazines. One time I got tire of it and after a big rain I road to each one and sprayed fuel on them and then lit them. Te county then got them. What was fun was comming around the corner in a Mack rolloff and across my lane was a big sofa. I hammered it.

This weekend was a good example about raising kids. THis weekend The RV company I work for Had their company picnic. THey rented a fair ground and had 2 of their busses there. They served dinner for us and free drinks and peanuts and such. I was amazed at the folks that would wad up their drink cans and peanut bags and throw them on the ground not 20 feet from a can. What was really bad was som of the lazy sods actually stuffed the icecream cups and peanut bags in the cabinets of the Motor homes. On top of some kids turning on the water in the sinks. THey have a cover panel over them. One group of kids put the plate of the the drain and turned the water on letting it hit the floor. I scolded them and grabbed a towel and go it up.


While walking Around I woul pick up a few pieces of trash and put them in the bin. Some kids asked wh I did that that people picked up after them. At work we let a driver go after he faile d to tap a load. He was too busy on the phone to run the tarp. We let him go after he refused to pick up what came off the truck. Theres no excuse for it.

Now that so many people have four wheelers around here there is trash everywhere in the woods, not to mention the "new" trails they love to make. I don't know why, but years ago when they only rode trail bikes you didn't see much trash. I guess they can carry more on the four wheelers. Or, it could be that years ago parenting was practiced more than now.

SWMBO has taught me that if the dog isn't trained to not defecate on the carpet the dog has an excuse for doing it, the dog didn't know better. These litterbugs obviously were not trained properly to not litter.

But don't get me started on "new trails", I've a bunch of land that I'd like permission to put IED's on, WITH LABELS. Maybe just exploding cannisters of pink paint that won't wash off.

I have. Never forgotten the crying Indian on the tv when I was a kid. It must have stuck with me over the years. In high school I always threw the cans in the back of the truck. The other guys just threw it out the window. I would ask why do you do that? And they would ask me why I threw trash in the back of the truck since it would have to be disposed of later...
Different cultures, education among other things. One of the most successful anti litter campaigns ever was "don't mess with Texas"
I pick up trash along our road all the time. The cleaner it looks the less likely people are to litter. And some will never care.

I have alot of trouble with folks that come to the rubbish site we run. More than once if I head in behind them and they throw a cigarette out they get to pick it up before dumping. We have a lake on the access road and thats popular for them to use for butts. One thing that I guess gets me is that daily we have to walk the site and access roads to pick up any debris. We used to have a judge here that your first offense of littering you g ot a saturday of trash pick up. Many classmates got that detail.

I tend to agree with others in regards to the lack of being taught responsible behavior somewhat concerning this problematic issue. Just a thought? Quite a lot of people drive the rural roads consuming beer and other intoxicants. Before accessing the major roadways, they toss the containers out their windows, because of the open container laws. I also remember the commercials on TV in the 60's and 70's advocating the clean up of the waterways and the environment. The tear running down the cheek of the Native American actor was most definitely an attention grabber. I don't understand why it is common place in parks and picnic areas, that even though there are trash containers available, there are problems. Sometimes the containers aren't supplied with even a lid or cover, and the trash bins are not emptied when full. As a result wind is more apt to scatter the trash everywhere including the adjacent water recreation areas.

one morning I came out to find a Mcdonalds bag strewn across my front yard, picked it up and found a cell phone bill inside and called the pig. I told them if they did'nt come over and get there ****ing **** severe problems were to be heading they're way.. I had there full name address went by and even knew what cars they owned.. Gentlemen, I am so glad that picking up the trash on our roads is NOT beneath us. That is because of the culture we all grew up in. I am sorry that we are the few that do this, I would hate to think that those that were caught throwing trash out would be made to preform this service. I thought those sentenced to public service for their transgressions could and should help with these issues, but I guess it is below them.

As I do every week, I will continue picking up the tossed trash on my roadside and putting it out for the trash pickup service that I pay for.

We live in a very rural area and I often hike or bike the back roads around here. I'd wager anyone a fair amount that they couldn't walk any more than a couple hundred feet in any direction without coming across beer cans, or soda/water bottles, or food wrappers or some other litter that some slob has just tossed out the window.

Maybe not up there with toxic waste or global warning in pure environmental impact terms, but I just can't understand why people think that their car window is a handy trash can.

I think those who do this have are selfish, lazy, self centered and I wonder why they live in a rural erea or bother to be in the country.

I know of several morons who own pickup trucks around here. They throw their trash in the bed of the pickup. I aks them if the know it has a good chance of blowing out and the usual reply I get is that they know and its how they keep the inside of the truck and bed clean. These morons dont care that it will blow out of the bed and into the roadside.

We have the biggest problem around hunting season. I live on a small road that turns into a logging road. During hunting season, booze bottles, beer cans and other junk gets dumped along the road. Hate finding it with the mower.

Same problem on my land that I allow hunters to use, but am considering closing to public use because of the litter. I don't understand how of all people hunters seem to be the worst effin pigs out there. Freaking piss jars, candy wrappers, hand warmer packets, ammuntion boxes and all kinds of trash. So I go out to hunt on my land on weekends and have to look and pick up this crap.

I remember when I was a kid it was worse though. The bottle law really helped to clean Maine's roadways up, and the trash is not as bad as it was in the sixties and seventies, but it is still enough of a problem that it makes me sick to see, especially on my own land.

I have overhead many discussions where people say "I paid my taxes to pay for someone to go out and pick up the trash - so it is okay if I throw it out." It seems many are teaching their young that being concerned with trash is for others to deal with. We have always taught our children and now grandchild to take care of the outdoors. Another local problem we have is the selective enforcement of the covered trash vehicle requirements. Alot of the debris is simply from the loose trash coming out of the transportation vehicles.

My answer to people like that is:

" Excellent point - please give me your address so I can come by your house and dump all my crap on your front lawn. Then you can call the town to come pick it up - just remind them that you're paying taxes for them to do this. I'm sure they'll get right on that".

I usually go to the Waste Management landfill once or twice a year when I prune trees in our yard, and in fact, took some limbs or brush, and other trash out there 3 days ago. But the road there is a good road and clean. I reckon there may be a couple of reasons it's clean. In the first place, with a water bill and drivers license that shows we're WM customers at home, it doesn't cost me anything to take stuff to the landfill myself, but I think there's a $30 charge if you go there without a tarp over your load. When I stop on the scales to check in, show ID, etc., the guy always asks what I have (under that tarp). And I don't really know, but I suspect WM has people keep any trash picked up along the road.

The storm we had at the first of the week we are taking brush free as long as its not mixed waste or contains household. I was following a truck comming in and the 2 boys in the bab threw out a Sonic bag into the pond and ontop of the haul road he threw out 2 bottles. They got banned for a days hauling and had to pick it up. Then at our shavings bin a horse owner and his helper got out and loaded a load of shavings on a trailer. after they left there was a pile of garbage from underthe passenger side of the truck. We called him and told him that his helper needed to come out Monday and pick up his mess or no more shavings.

I was working in my garage one day and heard the sound of breaking glass as a car was driving by. I looked out and saw a brown paper bag lying in the street. I grabbed a 5 gallon bucket and walked out there and picked up the broken quart bottle of beer, put it in the bucket and set it in the back of my truck. I followed the guy home and went up to his porch. After dumping the bucket on his porch I rang the door bell. The guy and his wife answered the door and I told them that he left this in front of my house and I thought I would give it back to him.

Turns out, he had just had a DUI and his wife was giving him the business for drinking again. I smiled and said good luck with that and left.

I did a lot of stupid stuff as a punk teenager but we never stole, vandalized or littered. That stuff gets me worked up in a hurry.

Mostly beer related litter in my front yard, since they don't want to get caught with an open container in their vehicles. I also get several trucker bombs, since there is a lot of truck traffic on my road.
Watch out for the bottle bombs, that will explode when picked up.

The smokers is the one I don't understand.

Seems no one would stand in a group waiting for the light to change and throw down their McDonald's bag, but every smoker will throw down that butt comfortably.

Same with them tossing it out the window when heading down the road. Hard to see during the day, but at night I see the sparks bounce all the time. I never see that fast food bag fly out the window.

There is plenty of garbage in the ditch to suggest that the bigger stuff goes out the window also, just can't think of the last time I was following someone and saw it.

Smokers... All the time, no reservations...

Why is that?
