Speaking of my leftover beer from Saturday's picnic...one of the attendees told me about how he keeps mosquitos at bay for picnics at his house: Listerine. He said he puts a mouthful in and sprays it out all around the picnic area and never has a problem with the little buggers. He says they hate the smell.

I was thinking about getting a Sam's Club sized bottle and spraying it from the hose end sprayer???

Anyone ever hear of this?

I can never get them in the sink or near a bottle of mouthwash!

Listerine eh? Dont know if it'll kill them but at least they'd have fresh breath when buzzin your head.:D

My wife tried that, I don't know if it helped with the bug problem but I had a certian anxiety because the area smelled like the dentist office.

Buy a large bottle at a discount store and fill a hand spray bottle like windex etc and spray it around the picnic area or the fire pit, bar-b-que area or around the yard or deck when sitting out, and it seems to work fairly well. Been doing that periodically for years. It seems to linger in the area (on a calm night) and last quite a while around the corn roast pit etc.

CHEERS!

PS: yes have a boo at the Snopes item mentioned by coachgrd above. I guess you pays yer money and ya takes yer chances? When we first got wind of it years ago, we tried it and wondered how well it was working? But yes, it seems to have some effect, especially if they are really bad that night, (day etc) and it seems to help. Best on a calm day/night so it doesn't all blow away before it takes effect, but on the other hand, if its breezy, mosquitoes tend to blow away also. We felt it could make or break the corn roast! (?) ADVANTAGES: just a lot cheaper than Raid type foggers which "may" work better?

Well dunno about the breeze thing. Our Gulf Coast mosquitoes handle the wind like seaguls! :D :D

Cheaper, maybe, but a $3 can of Off lasts me a long time and it works 100%!

I thought them texas skeeters needed a full on head wind and a running start to take flight kinda like a B-52! ;)
