Listening to music (etc...) on the tractor??

I think you need these:
http://www.racingelectronics.net/in...m=RE-48&xsid=ad35aec136dd2ec18012d34e48abe7f5

I use them at the racetrack, they do an amazing job of cancelling noise and are configured with a jack that plugs into a portable scanner. They should plug right into your player. They have a volume right on the headset that is easy to use. If they can handle the noise of 43 Winston Cup cars, they can handle whatever noise your tractor makes. They have several models, these are the ones I use.

Hi all-
I have a pair of "Worktunes" headphones that allow me to listen to AM or FM radio while on my tractor, but I want to listen to other things. In order to listen to a book on CD or MP3 music I have been putting those little 'earbuds' under my worktunes headset (not turned on) to block out enough noise to allow me to listen while working but the combination of the two is uncomfortable to me. What I would like to find is a pair of ear protection headphones that simply plug into a cd player or mp3 player like a regular pair designed for indoor use, but the the needed ear protection for working on the tractor for hours. I have done searches on the internet, Amazon, etc... and all I can find are regular indoor sets (which do not block out enough tractor noise) or pain old hearing protection headsets that do not have earphones intgrated into them to plug in to something.
In the hopes that I have described what I am looking for in a way that makes sense...
Has anyone run across a pair of such headphones?
Thanks very much!
Roy

I use the Peltor Worktunes on my Massey or Ford. That's about all I need. Quiet and "fair" radio reception. On my Deere, NOTHING will cover that obnoxious loud roar. It's the LOUDEST tractor I've ever been around. The engine ROARS, plus older Deeres with the hydraulic pump mounted on the front of the crankshaft get the noise from the pump added to the fray. Ear plugs AND ear muffs for that one. I like the tractor, but can't stand the noise. That's the biggest reason the engine hours have stayed so low over the past 26 years.

I bought these for $40 online. The bad thing is that the sale was for a 'random' set, so I didn't get to choose which ones I got. But the cover can be painted any tractor color you wish. :)

They have separate earphones and earmuffs (which you said you didn't like), but they're made to work together so there are no comfort issues. The good thing about separate components is that you can use either or both when you want.

Didn't want or need the scanner/radio, but the 26dB muffs & earbuds were definitely worth the $40.

I hope you guys have something to listen to? Like a little Marty Robbins or Allman Bros? Mix in a little James Brown, Elvis or Ray Charles and you can pick your tunes for workouts or cruising. Sorry, no rap for me though!
Personally I don't have any earmuffs with or without tunes in them. The rhythmic humming of my powerful diesel does enough for me.

I like to listen to the motor.

I like to feel the motor.. not listen to it... that's what the ear muffs are for.

From what I've seen.. radio shack are now only staffed by teenagers and they only want to sell cellphones. If you go to a radio shack.. you had better be prepaired to know exactly what you want, and how to find it.. the employees there are virtually worthless. I also remember the old days before radio shack carried other brands.... times have changed...

Glad you didn't recomend Radio Shack-------

Beat me about the head with a board full of rusty nails before you send me to another Radio Shack.:(

All the Radio Shack locations around here must be the model for our local Home Depot stores and our neighborhood TSC. No help, total confusion, and always a hassle over the simplest things.

I recall the day when they were "the place" to go for electronic needs.

Duh, okay, it's early; I was looking to see who you quoted when you said "radio shack are now only staffed by teenagers and they only want to sell cellphones." That is exactly what I've found there in the last few years and no longer even bother to shade their door. I used to repair stereo equipment as a hobby and build computers as a profession. Back then I could go buy components, including those super technical caps and resistors (said with sarcasm - not exactly technical) and they would have them. Now you just get that deer in the headlights if you ask for anything more technical than a battery.

My "last visit" to Radio Shack may go down in history as just that. My LAST VISIT ever.

I walked in the front door to find store manager and assistant playing with a remote control helicopter. Just as I cleared the door, the helicopter smashed into my right shoulder. Quite a suprise! Fortunately, 1/2 pound of plastic junk doesn't hit with too much impact. Another customer might have sent an attorney to "impact" Radio Shack a bit.

Thanks to everyone for all the excellent info folks! I ordered a pair of the John Deere noise-cancelling headsets. It looks like just what I need and is hundreds cheaper than the really nice pairs. Now I just wonder how silly I'll look wearing them as I drive around on my Kubota! :)

Thanks again!
