Saw this welder for 850 Canadian dollars or 625 American. Is this a decent welder. Mostly used on 1/4 to half inch steel.

It's Lincoln's version of the 180 series for big box stores. Slightly different than the welding store items.

Ok. Is it a decent machine for hobbyist. I need to build logging trailer for a bombardier j5. Quad trailer. Belly pan etc. I really only used stick but option of welding thinner stuff would be alright.

Probably ok for hobby work. Set up with gas, it will be a good addition to the shop. My Lincolns have always had variable wire and amp control. 135 Plus, 180c and now a 210 MP.

That will be a capable machine for hobby work. I ran the cheapest Lincoln 110v machine running flux core only (didn’t have gas option at all) for 22 years, it just died earlier this year. Built and fixed a lot of things with it, mostly 3/8” and thinner.

It’s plenty of machine for what you’re looking to do.

Any pics of the J5? We bought one brand new in 1965 with counterweights on the front and a forklift mast with high volume bucket on the back.

I think I still have the PTO kit on the shelf.

This is probably the same machine I bought some years ago at Lowes. The only real weakness in this machine is that it has 5 discreet power settings instead of being infinitely adjustable. I've not found that to be a major limitations although I would rather have continuous adjustments. It's a very solid machine. I only use Lincoln wire and I've never had a wire break or jam.

Agreed! On another note how is that 210MP. I am waiting for the new rebates to come out to get one. Heck of a machine for the price!

Overall I think you cant go wrong with Lincoln, they seem to have a machine for every use and ability. I was speaking with their customer service today and found them to be super helpful and it was nice to have someone who knew what I was talking about and not reading from a script.

I’ve never had to deal with Lincoln customer service but they do have a very good reputation.

With Miller I have had excellent service and one not so great experience which in the real world means nothing. Overall I am happy with them.

These days I am fortunate to have my very own welding consultant to bother.

Got my 210 with the spoolgun feature, all three functions have been good. Haven't used it on 110v. Nice smooth arc on stick.
